PAC Number Port - Way to Delay?

I hope that someone can help.

I understand that number porting works on a 7 day (5 working day) cycle. Is there a way to get this to last a few days longer? I am overseas for 7 days and am looking to buy a new contract on a cashback deal before I go, but allowing for delivery, it is likely that I will be overseas when the 7 days is up for the port to happen. What would happen if you were? Clearly being cautious as I do not want to mess up and then lose the cashback deal, but also cannot afford to be without my number while I am away.

I have a confirmed date now from the new network and I believe I now cannot back out of/delay the port (until I come back) therefore looking to see if it could feasibly happen while I am away.

Many thanks

I'm sorry but your post makes no sense. Your first paragraph says you intend to take out a new cashback contract before going abroad. Your second paragraph says you have a new network and have started a porting process.

If you didn't want the port to happen on a certain day you should have either said to the new network that you would prefer it to happen at a later date and see what they said, or just wai till you return from abroad to start the porting process. It only adds a week into the process. Regardless the port could happen whilst you are away, teh number is switching suppliers in the UK, your old SIm you have with you will sjust stop working whilst away and your new SIM will work when you return.

But as earlier, I'm still not entirely sure what position you are in

Sorry Woby_Tide, it was late and I wasn't clear (therefore thank you for your patient response).

I am currently on o2 (end of contract) and want a new contract on the o2 network as that appears to be the best deal (I am overseas quite a bit, but also need the sim to work in my XDA, thereore unfortunately 3 network is out). So that I can do this, I have started the process to transfer my number from o2 to Virgin (as I understand that you cannot go from o2 to o2) and the number will have transferred by next Thursday.

I have seen an offer that would suit my needs (Mobileshop) but will have to wait until next Thursday and check if it is still available (and knowing my luck, it won't be given the speed that these offers are changing  - why couldn't I have timed my renewal for December when the sales seem to be on ). If it is, I can then request a PAC code from Virgin, order the new cashback deal and give them my PAC code, but would be overseas 7 days later when the number was due to transfer. I didn't know if being overseas would affect it, as I was told that both sims (old and new) have to be in UK for the porting to take place. Until I was told this today, my thinking was that if I am overseas, the Virgin sim will stop working, my new o2 sim (with temporary number) will be fine up to that point, but was then not sure if my number would transfer from Virgin to o2 while I was still out of the country (as they would know where I was roaming!).

I think that I will have to wait until I come back to start this process as I cannot afford to loose my number (sentimental I know, but had it for 13 years :o).
