I have old terrestial and non-HD TVs in my bedrooms. I know that I will have to get digital boxes for these TVs soon due to the digital switchover.
Will any digi box suffice or should I be looking for particular brands/models; for example number of freeview channel received, picture quality and maybe getting HD TVs in the future ?
Any advice would be well received.

Numb er of channels received is the same on all stbs, if you are buying HD tvs in the future then they will have freeview included and freeview HD if you choose correctly, so thats not an issue.
Picture quality on small non HD tvs shouldn't be an issue but try the program guide and menu systems some of the cheap ones are very cheap looking and not very intuitive.0 -
Your choice of freeview box will depend on whether or not your tvs have scart sockets.
No problem if you do have the sockets, but if not then make sure the box can accommodate your TV.0 -
If your TVs don't have Scart sockets then you will need an STB with an inbuilt RF modulator to allow you to feed your TV via its normal TV aerial socket.
Something like this:
