I have searched the forum and found a couple of threads relating to calls TO Jersey, and using the 0844 prefix, which seems to be free on 02 (or at least it comes out of your inclusive minutes anyway)
I am going to Jersey for almost a fortnight shortly. What is the cheapest way for me to call/text the uk when I am there - can anyone help please?
Thanks

Hmm Jersey is a tricky one.
If you are using your UK mobile, you will get charged roaming rates by your UK provider.
You could buy a PAYG sim out here (there are now two mobile providers in Jersey, Sure and Jersey Telecom). You could check their rates on their websites. Calls / texts to the UK are charged at higher rates than local calls.

If you get 'My Europe' calls will be 35p per minute, inward and back to the mainland. Texts are 25p each, or if you have a text bundle, you can send each one for 4 texts in the bundle.
If your only staying for 2 weeks, a local sim may not be worth the hassle. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
Thanks folks - I had spoken to 02 and was told that the myEurope comes free with my package - so that should be ok, however - they did not mention that it could come out of my bundle, which was naughty of them
I'll phone them back tonight and ask them, and if necessary it might be worthwhile taking on an extra bundle for say even a tenner as it might work out cheaper in the long run?I have no more money to give - all you companies out there - do your worst - I give in!!0 -

Just a kinda personal gripe but this has always annoyed me.
Jersey (and Guernsey etc) have their own networks which use the UK GSM country code (234). They are officially listed and recognized internationally as UK networks, so why should their customers incur roaming charges when travelling to the UK mainland and why should Voda,Orange,O2 and T-mobile (etc) customers incur roaming charges when visiting the channel islands?
Of course the answer is obvious - more money!
The term fat cats springs to mind!

Welcome to my world! Channels Islands are really funny like this. They are on the UK postcode system, so sending from mainland to CI is charged at normal RM rates. However sending from CI to mainland we get charged with higher rates.
Many fixed line and mobile networks class CI landline calls as UK national (i.e. within inclusive minutes) but not calls to mobiles. However JT and C&W class calling from CI to the mainland as another type of call.
Also CI is in the UK banking system network, yet CI currency won't be accepted in many banks in the UK."An eye for an eye leaves the whole world blind" - Mahatma Gandhi0 -
