Oil Price heading back up

Just a heads up to anyone that's low on heating oil - crude prices are up 3.5% today.

I ordered 2000 litres last Friday for a Saturday delivery. Prices were up on Monday morning (today) and will now go up more this week.

I fear there will be no more major dips this side of Xmas.

    I have just rung around for oil prices in Cheshire & got the following, all excluding VAT for 1,500 litres;

    Boilerjuice 55.00p/litre
    Independent 1 54.95p/litre
    Independent 2 54.40p/litre

    Nobody seems to be bothered to undercut anybody else & the result is a local, cosy cartel.

    Not impressed:mad:

    Everybody has a bottom line, I suppose it gets to appoint where it doesn't make financial sense?

    With winter coming quickly, price will probably rise? I filled my tank up last week 2000 litres at 53.9pence plus vat. I'm not going without again like last year when 2 foot of snow was on the ground.:mad:
  • You're lucky, here in France heating oil is 84c / litre which is 73p / litre, and the quality is a touch worse. That's the cheapest supplier too.

    I'm not totally sure why, but it is definitely tax related. France applies full VAT at 19.6% whereas I suspect in the UK it may be 5.5%, or none at all.

    Anyone know?

    But most prices are quoted excl VAT - eg Cidersid above quoting 53.9 plus VAT
  • So a 15% VAT difference, which explains most of the difference, but not all. Perhaps competition is a touch harder in the UK.

    Anyway, at least we make it back a bit on diesel. (Preferential French road tax) It's currrently at 1.30 Euro = £1.13 / litre.

    Hopefully, the current mild spell is not lulling people into a false sense of security.......
