Printer spooler error

Hi
I have a problem with the printer spooler. I have tried trying to re-start it but it says I have error 1068 and no printer is detected. If I try to add my printer it says I can't because the spooler service is not working. My question is - is this a printer problem (old printer) or a computer problem (pc only 3 weeks old). I should add that the printer worked fine with the new computer for the first two weeks I had it.
Any suggestions greatly appreciated.
Thanks

You need to do a clean uninstall of anything related to the printer, even in the registry. Reboot, then reinstall.0

Would help if you gave the make and model. No free lunch, and no free laptop

Thanks for your replies.
The printer is an HP photosmart C3180.
Could you tell me how to uninstall from the registry as I haven't done that before.

You could also run Revo uninstaller free first, scroll down for the 1.93 free version

Then you could run CCleaner scan for issues to check, the Slim Version is better

Make sure you download the drivers from HP. I had this problem my printer when I got my new computer, but downloading the latest driver from the website as opposed to using the CD worked for me! Damn you Windows 7!0

Ok.
I have performed your suggested tasks and have tried to reinstall the drivers. BUT it tells me that they can't install as the spooler service is not working and there is a problem with the dependency group, error 1068. What now???0 -
Click start then run, type services.msc then click OK. Wait for the services box and look for print spooler.
Left click it then right click it and click properties. Set the start up type to automatic, click apply.
Click to start the service
Restart the PC then go to the services list again and check printspooler is started and still set to automatic, if so, try installing the printer software0 -

Press Winkey +R and type CMD /K SC CONFIG SPOOLER DEPEND= RPCSS then press Enter.
Once you've done that restart then install the drivers I linked to a couple of posts up.0
