Dave urges people to report illegal immigrants

            I agree.
Help explain then the criteria that the public should use to spot an illegal immigrant.
TBH If the last Labour Government had acted in a proper way and secured our Borders the problem wouldn't be on the scale it is now, having said that whats done is done.
I don't actually think the idea works, for me if anyone is arrested on suspicion of commiting a crime in this country and found to be an illegal immigrant I think they should be kept in custody and deported even if its years later and they have a family.
It may sound harsh but personally speaking I really don't care, if people don't respect the laws of the Country they shouldn't be welcome here and that goes for any white Aussie/South African student outstaying their student visas.......Suppose i'm a harsh git really..0

i have known a few illegally working foreign people that are legally in the uk but working--arent they more numerous than actual illegal migrants?--wouldnt it make more sense to check out the employment situation because they seem to work freely for quite high profile places!mfw'11 No68- 55k mortgage İO--little to nothing saved! i must do better.0

My girlfriend is Turkish and is here on a working visa after studying for her Masters. The rules for her, as someone with a high level of education and doing things honestly and trying to make a go of it, seem quite stringent - she has to report any change in residence to the police and the level of earnings she has to achieve to be able to renew her visa will be quite challenging. I have the feeling that it's these desirable immigrants who will find things more difficult while things remain the same for those willing to take shortcuts.0

i knew a turkish guy in the uk who wasnt suspose to work and he started his own business. he got loads of bank loans on the back of the business and bought several homes in turkey-he was on a students visa which was well out of date --his mistake was to apply to the home office to bring his wife here and only then did they start investigating him--he got kicked out but left all his loans behind and last time i heard he was doing well with his homes---my wife is turkish but i live in turkey and visas to live here precluse any work!mfw'11 No68- 55k mortgage İO--little to nothing saved! i must do better.0

I personally would feel no discomfort in reporting a suspected illegal immigrant. Im pleased that we now have a government which seems willing (on the face of it) to tackle the problem. If more people throughout the country could see the mass changes and destruction of communities that immigration has caused in Birmingham (and other big citys) its frightening when you dont even recognise your own community and you can acyually see the changes happening daily. I will NEVER vote Labour again.0

In that case, would you fail to report a mugging/assault/arson attack/etc.?Same here.
I this really the society we want? Tipping off other people we suspect might be illegal. Reporting people we suspect might be benefit frauds.
 It stinks.
Law enforcement is the state's job. Sort out border control and benefits admin, that's all there is to it.
Law enforcement may well be the state's job, but as a citizen of that state, I'm happy to help them perform their job more effectively when it's in my power to do so.
The only real question in my mind is whether there is the potential for the net benefit to be negative if there are large numbers of spurious reports, such that it lessens overall effectiveness. But there's no problem with reporting someone you suspect might be here illegally. If they aren't, nothing will happen. If they are, the law may be reaffirmed. Win-win.0

Plenty of people used to where I used to live - I've even done some (although I am rubbish at it). I did apples one year, strawberries another and nearly did plums one year. Pay was low, but it was school holiday work. The wages probably doubled when NMW was introduced.undetterred wrote: »I can see plenty of Brits rushing to pick fruit and veg.
I could only do the farms up the road, when they put a hand-written sign out on the road, so 2-3 days work tops. So it wasn't ever a full-time type of job that was available as you'd need to coordinate all the farms within a 20 mile radius and have a minibus to get people to do it full-time.0

I've reported two today already to the U.K Border Agency (UKBA), but I am in a job where I see it on a daily occourance so it is easy for me, which has allowed me to build up a great relationship with the local UKBA office.0

            Not many practical examples there.
GD had a stab - full houses, car washers & workmen offering services in the street. Estimates of illegal immigrants seem to be between half and one million - they can't be that difficult to find especially when they are unlikely to be equally dispersed throughout the general population.
It's starting to sound like a politicians soundbite.0
