Virgin tivo!

Has anyone got the Tivo box from Virgin? I am thinking of leaving Sky and going with Virgin but not too sure about the Tivo service. Have been with Sky for nearly 20 years but getting too costly at the moment. Just wondered whether the Tivo box was any good?

For one thing, unlike Sky,you won't own the TIVO box so if it goes faulty, then the service calls are free as are upgrades. That goes with all the kit that VM supply.

Interesting, other threads have been with folks moving from Virgin to Sky for the same reason.

PS Don't get distracted by the Tivo guy if your wife makes an emergency call from a plane.

I have had a Tivo for about three months now and am very pleased with it. On the rare occasion that there are three programmes that I want to record simultaneously or overlapping there is never a problem all three record.

I find the controls etc. easy to use and have all my favourite prommes programmed in, so watch TV at my convenience not necessarily at the time that they are broadcast.

In my opinion Virgin although not perfect are better than SKY

Just Google it, loads of stuff/Reviews on there, also the "Digital Spy" webpage. You do know its free at the moment to new customers? (or Was)

Thanks for the replies (sensible ones anyway;)) much appreciated, think I will give them a call and see what the cost will actually be.

I've had a TiVo box for a couple of weeks and am delighted with it. It turned out that getting it reduced my monthly bill by £20!

The Tivo box is FREE and activation is also free at the moment.. I'm definitely looking at moving to Virgin when my 20% off my package ends in Jan.

  • Do you think I'll be able to get the Tivo box for free as an existing customer, if I call and threaten to move over to Sky?

We're on a rolling monthly contract at the moment and have:
V+ in 2 rooms (upstairs in bedroom and downstairs in living room)
All channels + HD channels in both rooms (apart from Sky Sports HD in the upstairs bedroom)
    10 mb broadband
+ 2 landline phones with 2 different numbers.

We pay about £95.00 a month and feel that's a bit OTT.

What do you think? Any chance of getting the price down and having the Tivo box instead of V+?

Right, I have spoken with Virgin and the price they have given me for the package I want is £107 per month. Also the first 3 months have a discount of £25 included. This means a saving of approx £40 per month (not including the 3 month discount) compared to what I have with Sky and Virgin at the moment. The only thing I am unhappy at is the installation fee of £150. But they would have to install a Tivo and 2 V+HD boxes. Rang Sky this morning about cancelling with them, and the best they could offer me was £10 off what I am paying with them at the moment and this was offered because I had been with them for 20 years:o Anyway, have now cancelled my Sky subscription, and will wait and see if they contact me again or not in the next couple of days before I confirm with Virgin about their package.
