Girl, 23, Debt Free Wannabe

Monday 10th October

Not a bad start to making a difference. I have saved nearly £2 in small change (10p and lower) since the start of last week, over £3 in a small money box for 20p's only, and my £500 tin, which I am also using for £2 coins as well as £1 is getting weighty! I have ignored the tin for a couple of months, but started it up again and when it's full it should hold around £800 as I am not just using £1 coins.

I have sorted out a pile of Ebay stuff, which will be checked for any problems and hopefully photographed and listed tonight!

As my parents are on holiday, I have been left alone in the house. The fridge was empty when they left and they left me £30 to buy food, milk, and pay any of the doorstep bills (eg window cleaner). I did a food shop yesterday and looked for offers and went a brand lower on a lot of things.

Had a low point today, had a text from a payday loan company saying in 4 days I will have £350 added to the balance to cover solicitor and recovery charges, and I cannot find any evidence of which company it is as there is no contact information in the text! I shall have to do a lot of digging tonight I think and try to sort this out!

My hair appointment is booked for this week, but I think I'll move it to another week when I have saved and budgeted enough money to do so.

I am enjoying things that don't cost a lot of money. I have used products I have laying about to pamper myself, I've baked cupcakes using ingredients from the cupboards instead of buying chocolate bars and I have read books.

Hopefully the next few days will pick up a bit more and I will get signs that things will get better! :undecided

    Friday 14th October

Got a slight worry off my mind, and have a couple of days breathing (and thinking!) space. Listed 8 things on Ebay last night and have a lot more to do tonight. The change jar has over £3 in, and the 20p Jar is going well. Looked on Mazuma and Envirophone as I have a few handsets laying about and I have a couple of items I could list on Gumtree so hopefully money will start coming in. Going to ask my boss when the pay rise will come into effect as well.

The only thing that has wound me up is that I won't be getting my bonus at the end of this month, which would have been £400. It was almost a certainty as I was told many times but I have been told that someone has mucked up and so we now won't be getting it. Would have come in useful for Christmas so I am a bit annoyed that it was built up as a given for months, only to be taken away. >:(

  • Hi - if you're selling handsets, try one of the mobile phone comparison sites, just do a search on google for mobile phone comparison, to make sure you get the best price. Also, check to see if any of them are on one of the cashback sites to maximise income. Sometimes it is better to sell phones individually as cashback is per transaction, not per phone.

Good luck with the debt reduction.
  • Thank You Workie Ticket :) I have about £50 worth of phones but hopefully with a bit of shopping it could be more, fingers crossed!
