Hello
At 2:17pm today (10th October 2011) I received an unsolicited call on my landline telephone number from "Save and Claim Limited" (registered claimsregulation.gov.uk number CRM 17673) regarding reclaiming PPI.
My number is registered with the Telephone Preference Service. I have had no previous dealings with this company, have never taken out PPI, I am removed from the edited voting register, and am ex-directory.
I explained that my number is registered with the TPS. They said yes, "Yes, but it doesn't apply to us, as we are not selling anything."
Is this really the case?
(I have already e-mailed info@claimsregulation.gov.uk)
Thanks,
Julie

I would challenge them on that assertion, on the grounds they're trying to persuade you to pay for their service.
Since I doubt they're doing a survey, or offering a completely free service, they are indeed trying to sell you something.0 -
This was my experience of them.
A man from Save and Claim visited me about possibly mis-sold PPI.
I was told that I would receive the full PPI refund and, from that, give them "25% +VAT success fee". The 'success fee' being my cheque from the PPI company. I queried its meaning several times as the wording was ambiguous. It could be 25% + 20% of the success fee.
I asked for time to think. I was told no repeat visits.
I offered to go to the offices after thinking - still 'no'.
I asked to retain the form to peruse - I was told 'no'.
I asked if my husband (working in another part of the house) could take a photocopy - I was told 'no' - as it's a legal document.
The man then got annoyed - called me a 'time-waster' and left.
I checked with the company and he really does work there.
Am I being over-suspicious, as they have absolutely rave reviews on the internet?
I'm doubting myself here.0 -
Why did he come to visit you?0

If you had ppi and believe you were mis sold, you can make any claim yourself, you dont need to pay a penny to anyone. This was my experience of them.

Oh sorry, you will ! the cost of posting the letter, i forgot about that!.0 -
Many thanks for all the advice.
Being no expert - I assumed it was normal practice to visit.
Feel a bit more confident now and will press on with claim independently.0 -
I tried to get my miss sold PPI back a couple of years ago and received a standard response back from the bank. So I kept saying I'll look for a refund company to help me get the money back. I then in the mean time received a call from Save and Claim telling me that they can get the money back for me as it had been miss sold. I was a bit reluctant at first because they called me rather than me call them and they offered to send a representative round to my house the next day. I asked my husband to stay with me when the man came. He explained the process showed us letters from banks to other customers that they had received money back for and he assured us that they won't take any money we get the full amount then pay them. He said that they do require 2 cheques one for £85 for that month and one dated the following month for the same amount but written out there and then. My husband had just lost his job and I was on maternity leave so were were desperate for the money back. It was October 2010 that he came and advised us that we would receive the money between 8 and 12 weeks but would try and push it through before christmas for us. He told us that there would be a fee of 25% that we would need to pay after we had received the settlement. He even gave us his card and told us to call if we had any problems. He told us that if we wanted to cancel at any time we could. I signed the cheques and paper work which I didn't get a copy of. he handed me a folder with nothing really in but the information about the loans. he even estimated the amount that we would receive which is what was the decider when we signed. I never received a follow up letter so i decided to call Save and Claim to see what the progress of the claim was. By this time both cheques had been cleared. I spoke to them and as soon as they picked up the phone it didnt sound professional as music was playing in the background and people chatting in the background (not other phone calls). I asked what the progress of the claim was and I was told that they needed to wait until both cheques had cleared before they could send the letter to the bank. I told him that I had been told that it should be resolved within 8 to 12 weeks which he replied with theres no way that it will be resolved by then. I then gave the mans name who told me this and he said he doesnt really work for us hes self employed and we have let him go as he was telling every client they would receive it within that time. I then asked him to give me an idea of how much we will receive as the man who came to out home told us. He laughed and said no where near as much as that and that he wasn't qualified to give us this information. I was really mad and had felt like I had been told a complete pack of lies. Not only had I been miss sold my PPI but also PPI recovery. I asked to cancel as I'd been given wrong information and found they charge a higher rate than other companies and I was told I'd not receive my initial payments back. I was now stuck with this company as I couldnt afford to pay upfront fees again for another company. Months passed and I called almost every 2 weeks and each time given a series of excuses as to why we hadn't received the money. My husband still hadn't found work and our debts had mounted. Eventually after May 2011 they told us we'll receive it after August 2011. Eventually I received a letter from the bank not save and claim letting me know the outcome. The only letter I ever received from Save and Claim was with instructions on how to pay them. In the full 11 months it took to get the money I received 1 letter at the end and no phone calls. In the end I was dealing with the banks claim line as they were more helpful than save and claim. There was a mix up with the money and I received a cheque for someone else and had to wait for it to be reissued. I then as soon as it was cleared I had to pay off debts that had mounted due to the time scale it took for them to get the money. If I'd been given the correct information in the first place then I could have gone else where. not only that, in the letter they sent they said that they want 25% plus VAT. this was not advised when the man originally came. They wanted £1467 from me for their services. they sent me 1 letter, never kept me updated by phone calls. Then last week I received a call from save and claim asking why I hadn't paid them yet. I advised her that there was a mix up with the cheques and she said really rudely that she had called the bank prior to speaking to me and they confirmed I had received the payment. I'm now stuck in a position where I don't have the £1467 that they want, its nearly all gone on debt mounted by the time its taken to get the money and that I was trapped in with the company as wasn't able to cancel and find another company. I don't know what to do.

Same thing here.
Was cold called by these scoundrels (Save and Claim Ltd, Sandylands House, Heysham Road, Morecambe LA3 1DN, 0800 990 3215) this evening despite being registered with the Telephone Preference Service, no previous dealings etc.
Same line about not selling anything but just telling me about their helpline. Of course it was a marketing call.
Looks like they are acting illegally and calling people who are registered with TPS.
Have reported them through the TPS on-line complaint form.
Please do the same.
If you receive any further calls from this company complain to the Information Commissioners Office. My experience is if you get a second call you can complain again through the TPS on line complaint form again and they do pass it onto the ICO and the ICO will get in touch with you.I came, I saw, I melted0 -
I used Save and Claim to reclaim my mis-sold PPI after a telephone call from them one evening. I found them completely professional and very helpful.
I received a call from Save and Claim Ltd about 1 year ago and someone came out to the house to go over my paperwork to make sure I could claim, I paid £150 upfront and signed all of the paperwork. The guy who came out to see me explained that I wouldn't hear anything for 2 weeks as this was my cooling off period where I could change my mind and receive a full refund if I wanted, I didn't, I wanted to get my money back from the banks.
Anyway, after about 2 weeks I had a telephone call from my case officer, she was lovely, she just wanted to go over the details I had given the guy who came out so that she could send off my claim letter, I went through the details of how I was sold my loan etc. and how they told me that I had to have PPI in order to take out a loan. She also explained that the banks, at that time, had put all claims on hold whilst they awaited the outcome of the "judicial review", she explained that once the high courts had made their decision on the matter the banks would have to start dealing with claims again. Well the high courts came to their decision in April last year so I called Save and Claim as I hasn't heard much from them and was assured that my claim had indeed been placed on hold by the bank and despite several letters to them they refused to provide a response. My case officer did explain that I could now legitimately take my claim to the FOS but this would extend the waiting time dramatically, so I decided to just play the waiting game with the banks and trust Save and Claim to keep chasing them. She assured me that the banks had been told that they would have to respond to my complaint by the end of August.
Well, 17th August 2011 came and on my doorstep arrived a letter from the bank advising me that they were willing to make a gesture of good will payment to me, I called Save and Claim Ltd as I didn't think the amount was anywhere near what I had paid out, they were very helpful and they were straight onto the bank for me verifying the amount they had offered, sure enough the banks calculations were wrong and after I provided documents to show how much I paid on a monthly basis the bank recalculated and sent out another letter with a real offer of redress. I called Save and Claim to make sure they had received the same letter and was assured that they had that day too and that this offer was a good offer. I signed the banks acceptance and sent it back to them and a couple of days later I received a letter from Save and Claim telling me how much I would owe them once I received my refund from the bank.
A couple of weeks after I sent the acceptance back to the bank I still hadn't received my refund, I called Save and Claim and was advised that they would chase, which they did, turns out that the bank never received my acceptance so Save and Claim sent me a deplicate out and advised me to return it to them instead and they would post it to the bank via recorded delivery, well I did this and sure enough a few weeks later I received my refund.
All in all I cannot fault Save and Claim, they answered all of my questions, gave me all of the information I needed and chased the bank for me. Ok, they didn't call me every week with an update but I was given a free phone number and told to call them whenever I wanted an update, which I did.
I just want to say thank you to Save and Claim for getting me back a lot of money. It was very much appreciated.0 -
