Here is an example of GBBO for you: http://www.christopherjohnhayhurst.co.uk/home

to be fair that site really is very poorly designed
  • Thank you for your imputs, looks like I have a lot to learn.
I wouldn`t make tons of money, it`s just to advertise my cakes. The webb should be, more than one page I suppose.
So people could see each cake and prices individualy without clicking the back tab all the time.

Is it free to have your website ( once created,) it hanging there on the net so to speak . Or do you have to pay to have it displaid, sorry for the simple language.
BTw- bevanuk I like the webb you posted is it posible to put more pictures on it and moove them along like a page?

You will get an initial "free" website but you will then be asked to pay the renewal fee which will be unpleasent.

I agree, the main body is hanging off the end and the menu bar looks like it has just been "stuck on".

The site is also made up of images. No text for the search engines to find.

I honestly don't know - it isn't mine and I know it isn't the best website in the world, its just an example of what you can do with GBBO.
Whether it's good or not wasn't my point.

I need to make a webside for my new little busines, which I am about to start.
I have no clue how to make one or where to start.

    My questions:
    1. where do I start & can it be free?
    2. Is it easy to build?
    3. do you have to pay for it to be hosted ?
4.will I be able to keep changing and adding things, pictures to it?

Any suggestions or directions are wellcome
Please be gentle, I am a woman and not very technical one.:-(

Take a look at Google Sites. (I cant post links so just Google "Google Sites") If is a free hosted service that is easy to use and works from a choice of nice templates. You just point and click and supply the content. It is "google easy".

There is an option to point your domain name to it, so if you had joeblogs.com you could point that to your google sites page and it would be seemless. It works without you having a domain name, but if you want to buy one you can pick them up for under a fiver.

I would suggest you look at the craftsforum, where you'll get advice from genuine users who are able to post links to their own websites, so you can see what you can get for your money.

Personally I don't use a free or very cheap one, only because of the specific features I need, but I've seen some lovely sites using free, or very cheap packages.
If you need anything more complex than what a DIY hosted package can offer you will probably have to pay someone to design it for you (I would only use someone recommended by trusted/known people, particularly if they do hosting as well as your sites will be in their hands...).

when I was looking at shopping carts I found a lot of negative comments about this, I would recommend anyone to research it thoroughly As I haven't used it myself I cannot comment, but what I read was enough to put me off.
If I remember right the main issue was with the domain name, and not being able to take it with you if you want to change hosting.
NEVER NEVER EVER register your domain name with a hosted shopping cart provider, always register it separately, so it will stay with you.
