    OP
I agree with your anger,as another poster said its this attitude from banks that allows people to get into the sort of horrendous debts that you read about on DFW.
I regularly receive forms from my bank already filled in for £15,000 loan ,which I do not want or need but how tempting is that ...all I have to do is sign.
I feel very strongly that banks/credit companies must take resposibility over lending money.
I read one post yesterday where the posters debt repayments totalled up to almost equal their income each month ,this was not allowing for Mortgage, bills, food etc. Surely the companies providing the various CCs loans etc are acting irresponsibly to say the least:mad:
I have been close to that slippery slope but managed to pull myself back but these days its so much harder to avoid.
Do you bank with the same bank, maybe you could complain about their irresponsible attitude and threaten to leave!
    Good Luck

How about people taking responsibility for spending money thats not theirs?

Kudos to your daughter for turning the offers down. It shows that some people can indeed say 'no' :)

I had a reward scheme credit card when I was a student. I never paid any interest on it. It built me up a credit rating. They closed the scheme before I'd built up enough points for any of the items on offer!

Sorry I should have said the banks/cc companies should take some some responsibility for lending.Obviously the customer needs to take responsibility too ,but there are many who think "They will lend me £xxxx so I must be able to afford it" NOT SO!

These companies have a vested interest in getting us hooked on debt, there is a book available on Amazon that explains all the techniques they employ.I haven't read it as it would make me so mad:mad:

Its general selling techniques. Bank staff now have sales targets. Went into HSBC the other day and was harrassed by staff with clipboards and snazzy suits (complete with ridiculous 'footballers haircuts') trying to sell me every service under the sun. Banking isn't a service anymore.....its a sales opportunity. Sad but true.

  • I have read the posts with interest, the username gives it away, a couple of points is that 1) your daughter declined this offer of the Advantage Gold account, 2) she declined the offer of a credit card which as some posters have said would have failed the credit score. If she is at Uni the credit card with a £400 limit is available but if not then she would need a minimu income of £10000 gross for one.
I would complain, if she had taken the account and a credit card without her consent but if you really want her to do something then get her to take her account to another bank. That is voting with her feet on the matter by taking her business elsewhere. I understand the concern as family is family till the day you die.
One of my colleagues, Amanda, I have to comment. You and I are told that we cannot make a judgement of someone's needs based on the size of their waller or the clothes that they wear.
I have not worked for NatWest Bank since February 2009

Sorry Natweststaff member I don't understand what you mean by the comments in your last paragraph.
  • "Doing Business the Right Way" springs to mind

and Amanda, do you not have a Whistleblowing policy at your bank. We do at my bank.

if you understand what I am talking about?
