Gas National Database
Is there any way to get the Gas National Database changed?
For the second time, I have had my gas supply hi-jacked by British Gas due to an erroneous transfer, when my neighbour switched supplier.
The problem is I live in a property which used to be one big house but was split into 2 smaller flats many, many years ago and both flats share the same number on the gas national database.
An energy supply transfer should in theory only use the meterpoint reference number, which uniquely identifies the meter and therefore the gas supply but BG seem to just use the property number...and they have chosen the wrong one....twice!!
I've spoken to BG and my own supplier, EDF, about this but neither seem interested, so it'll probably happen again when my neighbour switches in the future.

Hi there,
Technically, it is EDF who are the only ones able to do the updating of the databases, being your supplier. What needs to be ensured is that your Meter Point Reference Number, Meter Serial Number and your property number all match up; which if not aligned already can take up to 28days once an update is submitted.
If EDF haven't seem bothered, raise it as a complaint, strictly following their complaints procedure. I advise doing this by recorded post (where you make copies of what you send) or e-mail, so a paper trail is left behind. Then see how quickly they resolve it for you!
Good luck

the information held on the data base is placed there by the gas suppliers and only they can get it changed perhaps a request for visit from suppliers engineer to confirm details etc may be in order .I am responsible me, myself and I alone I am not the keeper others thoughts and words.0

Is your postal address 1 The High Street, Anytown or Flat 1, 1 The High Street Anytown? From what you are saying it should be the latter but you need to ensure this is what the Post Office hold because most addresses are checked against PAF. If PAF is correct (use postcode finder on www.royalmail.com to check) then advise you supplier that they are missng part of your address, get you neighbour to do the same.IT Consultant in the utilities industry specialising in the retail electricity market.

If the flats have the same front door and then split into two separate dwellings inside, the Post Office won't do anything about it and will refuse to number the flats separately in which case the problem will continue and there's little you can do about it.IT Consultant in the utilities industry specialising in the retail electricity market.

I didn't know if it was appropriate to start a new thread, I came across this one through Google so thought I would post in here.
I recently received a letter from British Gas saying that they have been informed that I am changing supplier and will be closing my account shortly.
I emailed them immediately and was informed that they had been received notification from another supplier informing them that they are acquiring my gas account.
I emailed them again and asked if they could tell me which supplier had contacted them and they said they have checked the national database and can see that Scottish Power have taken over my supply.
I have never contacted Scottish Power saying I wish to move to them so I don't understand why British Gas say they have received notification of this?!?! and I have received nothing from Scottish Power to indicate that they will be my new suppliers either?!
I live in a rented flat and I would not be able to change supplier without the landlord's permission anyway. I have contacted her to ask if she had contacted Scottish Power but she confirmed she has not.
Is there a way I can look at the national database British Gas mentioned?
I have been given a number by British Gas to call their acquisitions team so that they can take back my gas supply but it's closed over the Bank Holiday and they say they will stop supplying gas at the property from 7th June!0 -

You can choose your own supplier (even in a rented flat) The landlord can easily change back when you leave. If it's in your contract, it is an unfair term and can be safely ignored. This is an open forum, anyone can post and I just did !0 -
I have had problems casued by Eon NOT updating the database from a "temporary builders supply" to my correct address, which caused huge problems when trying to change supplier. If you call EDF they can give you the number to call and get the database checked/ammended as required, I eventually got the number from Eon but no longer have it as my problems have been sorted out. It doesn't have to be your suuplier who changes the details on the database, you can do it yourself.0

Consumers cant access xoserve, it is licensed and username/password protected. To change supplier your l/lord cant stop you, no matter what is written in your tennancy. you will also find it it says not to have pre-pay fitted but as they dont own them they detail an unfair contract termDon't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.0 -
