Court case worries

    OP: Sounds horrendous...

    But I will say this:
Please find out from the witness care unit exactly what is going on. Court is a complex business. It can indeed be complications in getting papers, reports, etc before the court and mistakes can and do happen. It's shoddy, but it happens.

And, although there is huge stress on victims in court, but in general the victims I have seen through this process say it is hugely empowering to see justice served, to see the defendant in court, subject to sentancing, having to bow their head to the judge and finally be brought to account. They find it valuable and say it brings the ordeal to an end.

If you feel up to going, I think you would find it helpful, but if you think it is will be too traumatic then stay away and allow the police or Witness care unit to update you.

Is it possible they have dropped the case without telling us? We can't see why they would as it is a strong case and it was clear they wanted a strong case to put this guy away but maybe that is why they have not contacted us, aren't answering our phone calls or phoning us back?

Did you say that he had already pleaded guilty? If that is the case, it is very, very unlikely it's fallen through, unless something very unexpected has turned up.

Just remembered two other things after reading NeverDespairGirl's post.

It is usual for there to be a lot of bobbing and weaving by the defendant/accused at this time of year: they try to avoid being sentenced or sent to the Crown Court before Christmas and New Year. This may account for all the set-backs, adjournments and cancellations.

The second thing is that I doubt whether the case has been discontinued. You would know about it because Witness Care Units are expected to write you on the next working day after the case has been concluded, telling you the outcome, whatever it is.

    Hope that helps.
