Rising, have your cats never got on, or is one of the new to household or something?
I have a lovely cat called Sherbert, we got her when she was 11 weeks old, along with her brother.
Her brother (Liquorice) was run over by a car just over 2 years ago though, and i still miss him. Am thinking about getting another cat, but need to see if finances will allow first. And am worried about them not getting on with Sherbert too.

They've never been the best of pals but used to be OK ... what set it off was that Archie (the older dominant one) was in a fight and quite badly hurt and laid low & licked his wounds for 3/4 weeks.

During that time, Mia (younger but feisty one who thinks she should be the dominant) got used to doing what she wanted.

When Archie recovered ... that's when the *£$" hit the fan and they had a massive fight :( - every time they set eyes on each other there was WW3 so I ended up having to have them totally separated for 4 months  and it was a nightmare - they couldn't even be outside at the same time and the poor dog wondered what the &£$"! was going on.

With a very slow reintroduction, they gradually got back to a "tolerate" point although they do have "fisticuffs" on a fairly regular basis - but not "serious" ones (if you've seen cats fighting you'll KWIM)

I have no idea what set them off this time as they've actually been getting on a lot better recently and I've even woken up some mornings to find Mia on the rug in my bedroom (Archie's room) without incident.

I was woken about 4am with the "real" fighting noises and one cat, closely followed by another landed on my bed (probably the losing one running for help) and managed to separate them - although I do have the scratches & a bite to show for it.

The only thing I can think of is that there's been a strange cat hanging around in my garden (Mia hates other cats and goes nuts if she sees one outside) and if she's been growling & spitting, I'm wondering if Archie went to see what was going on and it just started from there......

On the other side, my pal has 6 cats (has always had 6 since I've known her and when one unfortunately passes on, another takes their place) and she doesn't have any problems - the resident ones just look at the new one and sort of go ... "OMG not another one".

Where I used to live (where Archie was brought up) there were 15 cats between 4 houses and there were only 2 that didn't get on - the rest just got on with it. HTH

Ohhh sorry, that was a bit long :o probably helped to get it out my system as it's really stressful....

PS sorry to hear about Liqourice (love their names!) ..... it's awful when you lose one

Well Rising we got the chooks and now we have to introduce them to the cats :rotfl::rotfl:

The chooks have to stay in their cage til Wednesday so I am hoping the garden won't be full of fur and feathers :o

Even the foster cats have been sat watching them ..........either out of boredom or eyeing up their lunch?? :rotfl:

OH the fun of pets ;)

Don't get down hearted over your dog search, the right one will come along. Just think it's not time yet either it hasn't been born or its current owner has not gone into hospital yet etc a thousand reasons.

I bet I know who will be boss there ..... (and it won't be the cats):rotfl:

Thanks PIC, I do get a bit down about it sometimes & I miss him so much ...... but I know it has to be the right one and it's worth waiting for (it just better be soon!)

  • Very quick round up as just realised another week has flown by:eek:

    • Rounded down £4.43 to the grocery pot - now at £39 :)... still going to be ages to get to £140 but ..... it's a start!
    • Been to DMs today & had a lovely roast beef lunch (with the trimmings) & I got LO to bring home:T
    • DF recorded the F1 for me as he knew I was coming :T so sat and watched that - still p'd off at the Beeb for handing coverage over to S*ky:(
    • DM also gave me a few of the flowers I got as she said there were too many ..... so living room is looking nice & cheery:)
    • Possibility of a dog :) but it will be a min of 6 months :( so still looking
    • Been good with the grocery shopping - still not bought any meat this month:j
    • Only 2 1/2 days of work this week .... then hols!:) (but only for the rest of the week!)
That's all I can think of for now ..... been a lovely day but I'm now absolutely frozen (serves me right for sitting outside:o) so thinking a bath & early on with the pj's:)

    • Phoned local dog home & discovered they will rehome to FT workers:) - may pop up at the weekend and do the form filling bit and then when one comes along, I'm all set to go:T
This is great, I think it's fairly short sighted of some of the shelters that rule out full time workers without considering each case (and dog) on their merits.

Keep your fingers crossed everyone, I just hate being without my canine friend and am just so ..... (sorry this will sound awful) beeping lonely without him.

It doesn't sound awful at all. I still miss my Murphy, I think about him every day, but having another little cat around really makes it easier.

Completely agree with this, The One clearly isn't quite ready. I know that doesn't help when you are waiting for him...

Sorry to hear about R worries. That's not a nice thing to have having over your head.:(

Oh and bath and pajamas - great minds and all that:D

    Take care

  • OK .... slightly :o to put this down on paper but I'm bored......

Been quite good on the spending front :T - really essentials only this month, which is great but I've not got anything to put on the spreadsheets and it's a bit disconcerting!

Pots are up to date for the month & no money to move into them until I'm paid (10 days yet!).

Feel like I should be doing something (money wise) IYKWIM .....

    Good news
I'm on hols until Monday!:j:j but

    Thursday:
    Not a lot on tomorrow
Friday: Off to see the Pandas :D (saw in the paper at the weekend that it's close to "that time" - so really hoping they will actually be out when we're there, or it'll be a major disappointment!).
    Saturday: Nothing
Sunday: Meeting Fresian for coffee (and will be collecting the Whiskas she so kindly got for me when it was on the fabby offer:T) Will also be popping to Home Bar*gains to do a stock up on loo rolls / toiletries etc whilst in town.

So .... a bit down - usually when I'm off, I'd be heading off to places a bit further away to have lovely walks with the dog - still really struggling to fill time without him :(. Before I did have him I ..... shopped:eek: (a lot) so not wanting to get back into that habit!

  • Looking forward to our coffee :D

    Me too!

Try to keep me away from the clothes!:o

Have had a very spendy day:eek: Went to the big Mr A to try to get a pair of jeans ..... my current (and only) pair have finally been retired after many, many, many years of service (the patches had patches:rotfl:) - they only cost £4 and I love them:(.

Down to 2 pairs of "non work" trousers & 1 pair has a hole in them :o We have a dress down Friday at work & I've been really struggling and sure people will notice I wear the same pair everyweek. Also have a night out in May and just couldn't wear the same ones to that too so ... they were needed!:)

Anyway, managed to find not 1 ... but 2 pairs - £14 and £10 so quite pleased with that.

Then had a quick peek in the clearance section and got 2 tops - both £10 reduced to £5 - which will do for dress down day / visiting friends etc and  a gorgeous top - £8

    5053120130909%7D&size=160,200&defaultimage=default_listing_George_rd

Not sure the pic does it justice but I love it and it will do for the night out in May too so managing to keep the costs for that down.

Got a couple of bags of cat litter and some O*lay face cloths - have been using stuff from HB but my skin's terrible just now so think I need to use something I know won't "annoy" it for a while. 3 boxes of 30 @ £2 (reduced from £3.78;)) - but I cut them in 1/2 (still plenty of lather on them:T) so that should last 6 months:D.

A few bits of F&V ... then liquid gold ..... then stopped at L*dl (not been for months) but managed to get a stand pump for £5.99 with loads of different fittings - hoping I'll be able to fix my bike (it's only had a flat tyre for about 6 months:rotfl:).

    So ..... a very spendy day .....

Good news tho is that I got this month's cc statement and it's under £300 (just) which is the 1st time for ages :T - seems to have been one thing after another for several months now... hopefully things are calming down.

Still need to tidy the house (have started) - DM coming tomorrow & we're going to see the Pandas:j

Been quite good on the spending front :T - really essentials only this month, which is great but I've not got anything to put on the spreadsheets and it's a bit disconcerting!

I'm skint :o - need to try to figure out why as I really don't feel like I've spent much this month .... probably still catching up from huge cc bill last month which = less spends.....

Logged into online banking earlier to discover the new site ...... it is hideous yuk absolutely horrible :( Took 1/2 an hour to rename a pot!

Good news tho' is that I haven't "pot raided" despite being skint .... although my emergency £30 in my hidden purse is gone!

Pots update - pinching this idea from Fresian;):
    • Main account - errrrr, lets not go there!:o
    • House & bills account - £32:eek: (all d/debits paid tho' - phew!)
    • Dog - £160 (wish I actually had a dog and the pot was less:o)
    • Cats - £48.62
    • Emergency - £50.01
    • Car - £6.62  (but everything done till next Jan) - can now reduce this to £35/month:j
    • House insurance - £125.04
    • Groceries & Fuel - £39.91 *
    • Car insurance - £60 *
    * Car insurance was the "getting ahead fuel pot" - but realised today that if I keep at this (£20), I should nearly have enough to pay in full at renewal .... really want to get rid of these d/debits for insurances & hopefully save a bit of money!:T

Unfortunately, fuel now lumped in with the "getting ahead groceries pot" - which is funded by Saturday "round downs" - going to take ages ..... and ages..... and ages!:o

Didn't want to create yet another pot as feel they're getting a bit out of hand - wish I had the confidence to do them all in one account but I know I'd never keep track.

Maybe once I've started to pay some of the annual bills in full this year (eg house insurance etc), I could start saving them together?

:eek: Freaking out at the thought!:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

    Beautiful & sunny again!
