When a transfer is made there is never a need to see the receiving screen, it just doesn't happen. The payment is 'sent' and that is the end of it.

So either the OP saw a screen that showed bank information on his own account, ie the £37,000 might be the total loan figure they could be sold (the last bank I worked for had the loan available on most screens to try and get staff to sell loans) or barclays have a major system hack. If it is the latter then someone should be going to the ombudsman and making a formal complaint.

There is never a need to see any screen connected with the receiving of a direct payment.

    Soo

Im not sure if this is in reply to my post.

I will try to explain again why it is VERY possible the OP saw a 'screen':
    - He went INTO BRANCH to see the manager/complain/enquire.
    - They looked it up. They see two accounts with the same account number but different sort codes, and his wifes account.
    - They for whatever reason open up all 3 both accounts. Maybe open up the OP accounts to see that the money left his wife, open the other account to see that he didn't recieve it. Maybe the banker decides to view the account of where the money was sent to and make sure its there - he is just human and may get curious.
    - The OP is in the room at this time and can see bits of the screen.

In theory you are right there is no reason for the OP to be shown the other persons account, but in real world situations it can happen.

It's a shame that the mistake was made, but quite frankly the amount of money the person who has mistakenly received the transfer has is neither here nor there. It's none of your business. If it were my account (I wish!) I would be strongly complaining to the bank that you had seen my account (assuming I knew, of course).
