i dont know if this is the right place to put this but here we go.
i have online banking with barclays bank which my wife went to transfer £200
pounds from her acc to mine she put it to my E saving or thought it had,it had come up with the same sort code as our bank,so it meant it went to someone else's acc who we dont know.
we rang barclays straight away and the said they would reverse it and the money would come back.
how wrong we was,it meant we would go over drawn which you guest it they charged me and said they are not allowed to take the money back from whos acc it had gone into without there permission.
they sent a letter to the person and said if they dont reply we lose our money and they gain the £200 our loss.
we seen the other persons acc which had wait for it £37000 in it poor old me
no money and now £200 overdrawn.
so if they can't take money back from an acc how can they be allowed to take money from mine.
BARCLAYS BANK you can guess what i think of them.

How do you know this other persons account contains £37,000 ??
Money that is accidently deposited into an account does not automatically become the account holder's money. Demand that Barclays reverse the transfer immediately."You were only supposed to blow the bl**dy doors off!!"0 -
Ask then to file an Indemnity Claim. You will have the money back within 24 hours. I would also be tempted to fill out a report with the OFT over this practice.0

Unfortunatly indemnitys only apply to direct debits.
I think barclays should be trying harder to sort this out for you, although i think your wife also has to take some responsibility as it was her who iniated the transfer, a lesson learned, always check the details
I would also be interested to know how you have found out the balance of this other account as its sounds as though the data protection act has been breached.
Good luck, i hope you get it sorted0 -

How did she do this?, did she use online banking?
How did she get the wrong account - was it just the wrong account number that happend to have the same sort code?
How would you have seen the other account with £37000???0 -
yes it was online banking
it was to my E saving account but the sort code was for our bank that it was coming from so instead of going to my account it went to an account with the same no as my E saving but into a someone elses account but in the same bank as ours because of the sort code if you understand a bit complicated.
as for us knowing how much was in there account we seen the screen.

very very oddBaby Milk Action is a non-profit organisation which aims to save lives and to end the avoidable suffering caused by inappropriate infant feeding.0 -

they didn't take the money from yours, your wife sent it to the wrong place - annoying but different scenarioBaby Milk Action is a non-profit organisation which aims to save lives and to end the avoidable suffering caused by inappropriate infant feeding.0 -

Sending or giving money to the wrong person is not the banks fault. Money transfers cannot be recalled, that's what makes them safe, the only way you'll get your money back is if the person receiving it returns it or the bank admit that somehow their system was at fault. You are not covered just because you've made a mistake.
The only thing that worries me with this is the fact that you claim to have seen the others persons account. This is a serious breach of security and you should immediately notify your bank that there is a security problem. If Barclays have a security issue then expect to see it all over the papers tomorrow.
From an ebay seller point of view bank transfers are great as once they are in the sellers account and business closes for the day they can never be recalled.

i know we made the mistake but what makes me mad is that we rang them straight away and they said its no problem we will just reverse it you will have money back in 24hrs which didnt happen.
we then spoke to someone in the bank which said it isnt a problem but it takes 14 days which again didnt happen.
so yet again we spoke to another manager they said we will send a letter to the person to explain what happend and ask them to refund the money as it is not theres, they have not replyed so yes i guess we have lost it.
the thing that gets my goat is the wrong information the bank fed me.
as for me seeing the £37000 in the other persons account this was when they looked at the account to where our £200 had gone, this was in the bank while we stood there and we could see the screen.
it was the sort code that was different the account number was the same as mine.
Soolin did you know from an ebay point that if somone pays by cheque and it clears after 5 to 7 days but the person who sends a cheque can still cancel it upto 27 days later the the bank reclaims the money from you.
