Can I use a Post Office Travel Money Card Plus to avoid the fees on Ryanair?

Options
Hi There,

My band and I are playing some shows in Dublin in December. I'm aware that Ryanair are going to start charging for admin fees when using prepaid Mastercards in November, so want to take advantage and get one of these cards so I can book these tickets now before they start enforcing this.

The problem I'm having is that I want to book the tickets ASAP before they shoot up in price. The Orange Cash card is an option, but it wouldn't be with me for 7-10 working days. The Post Office Travel Money card I can pick up in store and start using the day after.... but I haven't found a concrete answer as to whether I can successfully use this on the Ryanair site to book my tickets and avoid the admin charges. It is a pre-paid Mastercard like all the others, so I presume it's ok... However I don't want to buy it until I'm 100% sure.

Pleeeeease if anyone can offer me some information or guidance on this it'd be very much appreciated. Even if you can recommend another prepaid Mastercard that I can pick up in store.

Many thanks in advance.

  • You'll be fine with the PO TMC until ryanair change their T and C's.
Commission of 1.5% or £3 minimum.
Need passport or driving licence to buy one.
If you have any funds left, just spend at the shops.
  • thanks for the info! have you used the card before to buy tickets on ryanair? also do you need to take down proof of address to the PO when getting?
  • Just to confirm, I went ahead and bought this Post Office Travel Money card and successfully managed to book my flights with Ryanair without paying the admin fees. 5 of us in the band = £60 saving. Chuffed to bits!

If anyone is wanting to get in there and buy tickets before Ryanair's Terms & Conditions change on 31st Oct, I would highly recommend the Post Office card for this one-off purpose. The card is free and you only pay a little commission on the money you load on (I put on £230 and was charged £3.50) plus you can use it to buy your flights, cancel it within 14 days and not get charged!

In short... get one of these cards, pay a few quid, save yourself £12 or more. Happy Days.
  • I can't advise on it, but I reckon that using a simple prepaid Mastercard like this, if you are canny, you may be able to continue puchasing Ryanair flights with no Admin Fee for card payment for a bit longer than others would have you think ;)
