The whole thing is a con, IMHO.

As I said, I believe the whole thing is a con to extract additional money up front.

Whilst the obviously have made an error in your account I suggest the c0ck up theory applies rather than a conspiracy.

As has been explained many times in this forum, all water companies have their revenue and hence profit strictly controlled by the regulator (ofwat). They simply are not allowed to make a profit over and above that set figure, so they have no incentive to over-charge or result to dubious practices as it makes no difference to the 'bottom line'.

Water companies are in a win/win situation without resorting to such practices as you suggest.

You may be right - but the fact that several people who have posted in this thread have had a similar experience implies otherwise. It seems a simple to calculation to me: total units used throughout a year - multiply by current rate - add any outstanding balance - divide by 12. You don't even need a calculator for that, let alone a computer. To consistently ask everyone for 33% more than is justified - as other posts in this thread seem to concur - doesn't seem like a c0ck-up to me.

I think you have answered the question there without realising it. One computer - one c0ck-up - thousands of incorrect bills................
  • Yes, I had a similar letter from Anglian Water - my DD went up today from £42 to £49 per month.
