Item payed for and received but no feedback left

  • It's fascinating the different views people have about feedback.

As a buyer I leave feedback for the seller to let them know the item's arrived and all's well, so they can archive it etc

As a seller I leave feedback after the buyer, saying how glad I am they liked the item, which serves double as it makes me look good as a seller!

to zzzLazyDaisy and DCFC79- On eBay, seller's accounts are based on voluntary feedback and stars, so they can become anxious about receiving good feedback as their selling accounts can be restricted etc

yes i understand its voluntary but i go on the premise that if a contract is complete then it warrants to be informed of iteg teh buyer is happy with the purchase
The buyer has no responsibility to do that.

The contract is complete when they get the goods. You don't write a thank-you note to Tescos when you get your groceries, or to Amazon when they deliver you your DVD - their tracking will tell them whether the goods were delivered, so there's no obligation on your buyers to do this.

I know you like it but buyers don't like being badgered over it and you risk getting either poor marks for comms or a neg.

But equally, someone not leaving feedback does not count towards their metrics and thus no harm is done by not leaving it. Your metrics are only influenced by someone leaving a negative or poor stars, and no news is probably good news.

If the seller has emailed me to say my package/parcel is on its way, then once I've received the item, I always email them back to say I have received it. Contract completed.
As for me leaving feedback, that is left when I next have a reason to go onto Ebay. Even then, I never check to see if the seller has left me feedback.

    Quite right CQ

Doesn't stop sellers being anxious about the subject on these boards though!

    True.

Good feedback comes with good service. By hassling someone for that feedback, some people will feel that is not good customer service.

On the community boards I likened it to a Sovietesque checkout assistant who hands you your change and if you walk away without saying thank you says something like "Where's your manners?" or "Thank you!" in a sarcastic voice. They don't realise that it's the same on eBay - if it's freely given, it's a lot more sincere and a lot less likely to be meant in a sarcastic or rude way.

Talking about Soviet-esque manners, I visited St Petersburg to celebrate a significant birthday and to explore the home turf of the wonderful Dostoevsky.

The dour, unsmiling, suspicious and forbidding behaviour of ticket vendors, shop assistants etc was a constant source of joy to us- because it was so rude - we absolutely loved it!

    Anyway, sorry, back to feedback....

i personally dont see why a seller doesnt leave fb first, if the buyer has bought then paid for the item in a timely manner then their end of the bargain is complete and feedback should be left, then once the item recieved, the sellers feedback is given
    just my opinion :)

As a seller I leave feedback as soon as I have received cleared payment. When I list an item I tell buyers I will leave feedback for them at that point. Usually the feedback I leave will merely refer to their payment having been prompt and the transaction having been smooth. If I have been in communication with the buyer (and it's been ok) I will add that, too. I'm not a business seller and sell a variety of items which might otherwise have gone to the charity shop.
If there's going to be a slight delay to despatch I also message buyers accordingly.
Sometimes buyers do leave feedback, sometimes they don't. I have also had feedback months after a sale! I've just had feedback (yesterday) for an item I sold in August!
I once refunded some postage to a buyer and still got no feedback - but she snatched my hand off for the 75p refund!
