Grrrr, help needed please !!

My Ebay auctions have finished about an hour ago, during the past week, I had several people asking if I would send abroad etc, answer was always NO.

I listed in my auctions that I only send to the UK.

So what happens now, someone bid and won on the item, asks me to send to Helskinki, as otherwise it will be too late if I send to their London address.

Ive replied saying, no, post to UK confirmed Paypal address only. Then I see that they are registered in FINLAND.

Am so mad that people cannot take no for an answer, they even chance their blumming luck by bidding and winning on the item, then leave me in a pickle as obviously their confirmed address wont be in the uk anyway.

HELP please. I havent sold on Ebay for ages, and done a few last week and they all went smooth, now this week Ive got loads of little monkeys mucking me around.

Dont know what to do now, so any advice welcome.

  • Try for a delivery quote from a courier, if you stick the weight and dimensions on here someone will be able to find you a decent quote, finland is in the EU so no customs needed

Royal Mail is even easier as you can just take the stuff to the post office when you go and there is the usual cover against loss for item sup to £46.

    Check prices here:

    http://sg.royalmail.com/portal/rm/PriceFinder;jsessionid=RTQOHQJCGXXHAFB2IGLENZQ;jsessionid=RTQOHQJCGXXHAFB2IGLENZQ?catId=23500532&gear=pricingcalc

Then for future reference you need to set your seller preferences to exclude bidder sin countries you do not want, full details here:

also in case you are not sure then postage requirements for full seller protection is here:

    Exactly as soolin has said.

Terms in a listing are somewhat useless. You must set your preferences if you don't want to post internationally.

Thanks everyone, I didnt realise that I had to change preferences to block bidders outside the UK, thats how long ive been out of the game lol !! Last time I sold anything, people were nice on Ebay!!

Looks like im gonna have to just swallow this one, and send the item. Its only a new pair of toddler boots, but I am sure they will probably not be received, so will make sure that I keep COP etc.

Lesson learnt, I will go and check out the postage costs, and then send them a new invoice, as obviously the postage will be higher. Grrrr, not happy, but hey, wont let it happen again lol !!

Buyers in locations to which I don't ship
Block buyers whose primary shipping address is in a location I don't ship to.
This requirement can help you to avoid buyers who purchase your items without realising that you don't post to their location.

I clicked on your link above, and it took me to my preferences etc, and it says this on Ebay, but I cannot see where I can choose which countries I send to and which ones I dont.
Am I just being dumb again lol ??

Why won't they be received? As long as you print or type the address clearly any other postal service can read your labels and deliver goods.

Im sorry if I offended anyone by putting that they probably wouldnt be received.

I just cannot believe that someone would want to buy a pair of toddlers boots, and pay for them to be posted all the way to another country etc, when they could probably buy them cheaper from their own local Ebay.

I can understand if it was a very very rare item etc, but a pair of boots?? And to already have asked me before if I would send, and I politely replied no, then to just bid anyway, makes me angry.

Again, I apologise, no offence was meant. I will write the label very clearly, just like I do for any UK packages. I just personally wouldnt buy anything from another country if I could find the same or equivalent locally.

Just me being cynical, sorry. Lesson learnt.

People still are nice - it's just because the market has widened considerably over the last five or six years - relatives who at that time said they would never get a computer now have one - eBay is now open to the general public as well as enthusiasts. It's people's money - there are responsibilities on the seller's side, so if people get a little bit abrupt, either they may have a language barrier to deal with or they are looking at you as you no doubt sometimes look at them - the dispensers of items (or of money in many sellers' cases).

Try not to let it get to you personally. Little kids in Finland wear bootees too; in answer to the cross-posted question, I wouldn't be surprised if new items were more expensive in Finland than they are here even including postage, and I don't think Finland has an eBay. If someone's willing to pay for something, then I don't as a rule ask too many questions. There are things I wouldn't sell overseas but really - if someone from Outer Mongolia wanted my boots I'd send them there.

Mama Finn doesn't want to pay out for something that doesn't arrive either - so assuming that it will mysteriously vanish en route or, in so many words, thinking she's dishonest when many people in the UK have problems with items not turning up - is letting the horror stories get to you. People who widen the net to include as many buyers as possible usually make more money than those who don't take the risk.

Thanks Crowqueen, that made me laugh !!

I have read this forum so many times and the horror stories do seem shocking at times, I just have never bought anything from abroad, when I can buy here.

Ive had parcels missing etc in the UK, and when I have posted items to friends abroad, they seem to always magically disappear, so was very dubious and thought I was trying to cover myself with my magic little sentence in my auction!!

I have now changed all my preferences, and so any future listings will hopefully stay in the UK, unless the winner wants to send them on themselves!!

Thanks everyone for your help. I have learnt alot today, and am now going off to growl in my corner :rotfl:

There are huge markets abroad as our things in the UK are very cheap at the moment and as airmail post can be surprisingly cheap for lighter items it probably pays people to have stuff shipped from the UK. Some of my items in the UK have to go as a packet for £1.33 2nd class but can go to Europe for £1.30 airmail.
