  • Well done for selling your car and getting your mortgage so much lower. I bought a second hand car in 2013 that is wheelchair accessible for my disabled son. I am trying very hard to pay off my mortgage. Hopefully it will be done next year.

Thanks both, good luck Maximum Saving on getting that mortgage gone!!

Took my cash to the bank on Thursday and the woman on the counter asked what i'd been selling.. are they allowed to ask you?? I wasn't particularly bothered as she was just making polite conversation but OH thinks that's really cheeky/personal. :p

My cashback came through from switching my utilities so that's been OP'd and my car tax refund has come through already so that'll be another £15 paid off :T

The new car people have still not took the money for my car, they haven't been in touch though so I assume there's no problem. If they haven't took it next week, then might drop them an email. Free car for now though :j

Wow definitely not been visiting here as often as i should and have the receipts to show for it :o can't seem to get my credit cards to stay in my purse!

    Nov Monthly figures
    Outstanding Mortgage = £127,605.61
    Mortgage Offset % = 23.52%
Approx. Monthly interest saved and OP'd £22.42
Mortgage Neutral Date = Aug 2027

Total Debt as present moment £97,588.55 (-4,444.55:T)

Obviously there has been a drastic reduction of debt due to selling the car so i've gone way under my £100k target for the year :D really pleased with that.

There have been a few other OP's too which added up to £350 ish :T
    • £15 road tax back from govt
    • £7.55 T$B interest
    • £38.30 credit card cash back
    • random amounts £12.70
    • £120 utilities over budgeted
    • £130 car insurance over budgeted
    • £30 no idea :rotfl:

Not a bad month and this has reduced the mortgage term by another 7 months.:T

Having an unpleasant time at work at the moment, so the more i can reduce the mortgage, the better i'll feel if i walk out/get sacked/get made redundant.. obviously the latter one works best as at least i walk away with some cash in my back pocket.

I made a few purchases this week which although have cost money should help save money in the long run :
    - curtains for the landing window - it's a massive window and it really lets the cold in, the curtains make it look cosy and should hopefully trap some heat:T
    - new coat - *ahem* it'll keep the heat in my body more?
    - electric pressure cooker - never used one before - i got it on sale £70, so far we've had it a week and not turned the oven on once! Everything seems to cook in a third of the time and the electricity to use it is minimal.

Onto the next month, should hit the £96k's by the end of the year.

    xx

Hope you all had a wonderful Christmas, ours had usual family issues/dramas but in the main it has been ok and less pricey than usual which is always a good thing! It'll be cheaper next year as the "traditional family xmas eve gathering" is no longer a tradition.. at least not at our house anymore!!

Here to update my monthly figures..

    Dec Monthly figures
    Outstanding Mortgage = £126,868.00
    Mortgage Offset % = 24.15%
Approx. Monthly interest saved and OP'd £28.11
Mortgage Neutral Date = Aug 2027

Total Debt as present moment £96,234.47 (-1,354.08):T

End of year review looks positive :T
    • total debt owed went under £100k
    • total mortgage overpayment for 2016 was £5068, the rest was shoved into savings to offset against and S&S ISA
    • started a S&S ISA, very scary, had some wins and some losses.. but in it for the long term *fingers crossed*

    Goals for 2017
    • build up savings to increase monthly interest saving, stop moving my money into S&S ISAs!
    • Get total debt down under £80k
    • continue to freshen the house up - re-tiling bathroom, bits of decorating here and there and possibly a new front door, kitchen windows

Here's to a new year coming in.. _party_ Happy New Year to you all _party_

Have been doing ridiculous hours this week at work, however i'm trying to see the positives to this - overtime pymt will be over £500 (net) next month:j, free dinner bought for us on Tuesday night, piece of bread and free sweets for Weds night dinner (very cheap meal :D) and we are having a team building day on the company in the near future.

Can't decide whether to over pay my overtime payment or save it. As it's so out of the ordinary it should be used for something really special :rotfl: so it may go as an overpayment.

    Other money stuff this week
    • T$B interest over paid to the mortgage £8.63, also reduced the balance to £1500 as per the changes so £500 back into the offset account
    • Overpaid £43.53 to the mortgage - I rounded down all my accounts to start the year off with even balances
    • Bought some tops in the Debenh*ms sale - need to take back as they look awful :( - £55
    • also need to take some slippers back as they're too small - £15
    • bought a heated throw £40 - I hate getting in a cold bed and my electric blanket has died
    • ordered some new bedding £45 so far - ours is quite old and the seams are starting to rip! not sure of final cost yet, still need some sheets..
    • the payments for my car should finally be going out this week.. £145 per month

TV's broken  so that's the overtime pymt gone :rotfl:

To be fair it was over 10 years old (possibly closer to 15) and we paid £500 for it at the time so we've had our moneys worth!

We've been researching new ones and it's shocked me how technology has moved on so much and is so cheap, a smart tv with wifi access, HD, etc is less than what we paid for the current one. OH is picking the newbie up tomorrow on his way home :T:T £350...

  • Hi Shala-Moo,

I love reading your diary and thought it was time I posted rather than just lurked! Oohhh a new TV, now that is exciting :) enjoy and try not to worry about it being OP money used.

You are going great guns, whenever you have a rubbish day at work just remind yourself that "this too shall pass" and it will give you a renewed focus to pay off that mortgage ASAP xx
