I wouldn't use normal t-cut. I used to have metallic paint on my car and bought special T-cut for metallic paint which isn't quite as harsh on the surface i believe
If you look at halfords website for normal t-cut (See here ) it says "For metallic and pearlescent finishes use T-Cut Metallic Colour Restorer"..though doesn't seem to be on their website so maybe worth visiting a Halfords store/ local garage.

This is the t-cut i used to use on my metallic car paint http://www.motormania.co.uk/product_details.asp?intDescID=258&Manufacturer=&Code=
If i were you i'd buy the T-Cut metallic as it's cheaper than a respray if it goes horribly wrong!0 -

T-Cut (pretty much all in their range) is awful stuff (smears/dusting/trim marking). You'd be better off with a maguiars or autoglym polish if you're going to halfords0

T Cut is far far far too abrasive, when used by hand your more likely to leave worse marks as you can't break down the coarse abrasive.
Meguiars Scratch X is a far better product for spot removal of scratches as the abrasive diminishes as you work the product in and it therefore leaves a better finish.
If you want to cover up swirl marks on your car then it is worthwhile looking at a product such as Autoglym Super Resin Polish which will clean the paint and fill in the scratch marks with oils.
Finish off with a nice wax or something like Autoglym Extra Gloss Protection.0 -
The problem with over rubbing metalic paint is that they are painted with a base colour and then a clear gloss coat and you can rub the latter off leaving a dull patch.
