    The best software package is probably Family Tree Maker, if you use that it links into the Ancestry website if you subscribe to that. Makes searching for people a lot easier.

    I use ancestry.co.uk and genesreunited
    the more people you add to your tree the more likey it is that other users will contact you to say they share a relative with you

    I'm back to 1602 via maternal grandmother
    1720 via maternal grandfather
    and have now started on my paternal ancestors
