Tesco can't set a precedent of selling the damaged packs at a discount, or once the word is out, those same people who open packs on the shelf will then whine like stink about the damage and buy the packs they damaged at a discount. Far safer for Tesco to just take the items off sale than encouraging even more damage on that and other lines.

I don't condone what is happening, but when will companies learn that parents don't have a bottomless pit of money? Companies try to hide certain characters from kids (lego for example), hiding the barcodes so parents have no idea if they've bought that character previously. I really hope it's the company that feels it in the pocket in these situations.
Have some parents now lost the ability to say "no" to their kids?

Probably not but parents like to buy their children things that makes them happy and smile and more importantly - Quiet.

Be that plastic toys or sweets It shouldnt matter parents like to buy their kids stuff.

    And why the hell not?

OP did point out that DS had been saving his pocket money to buy Moshi Monster characters so this point isn't really relevant.

And, really, you're going off track. Please re-read original post.

It is annoying a few parents or non parents will go to these lengths and end up spoiling it for others and the kids.

I was in a big WHSmiths the other day and they had all this stuff and the stickers and that behind the counter and thats a much better way to prevent this petty theft - though it must be hard for someone like Tesco to accommodate.

OP - check out this thread https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/3533531

Our local paper was talking about a big increase in shoplifting. Including from charity shops.

What sort of a person steals from a charity shop?

Well that surprises me as I thought it was all tat in the charity shops I don't go into them myself so would not know.

I suppose desperate times people will lower themselves to anything.
