Problems with router

Hi I'm on Orange broadband with an ethernet connected Siemens Gigaset 572 router. I lose my connection at least once a day - but get it back after switching the router off and back on.
I'm on windows XP/Firefox and my computer has passed all virus/malware scans.
Is it likely the router is faulty or could it be something else? I don't have a spare I can test with.

Orange support is usually pretty dire, so you're unlikely to get much help there. Do you know if it fails if another device is using the broadband?
Best hope might be to buy another router. If you can get by with a basic one, they don't have to be expensive. Assuming that rectifies the issue, you could then do battle with Orange for a replacement.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the In My Home MoneySaving, Energy and Techie Stuff boards. UPDATE
I emailed Orange just a day or so ago and they phoned me today to say it was a known issue and given the time I have had the router, they are sending out a new one (Netgear). I can keep the old one as a back up. What can I say? I'm impressed!0 -
Pineapple - what area are you in?
I'm in SE London and had no connection for a couple of days now. I also have that Siemens router which I think is about 2.5 years old.
I also called the (un)help(ful) desk and was told, eventually, that it was 'a known issue'. What on Earth does that mean? I assumed that there was a problem at the local substation but on reflection they could use that as an excuse for a plethora of reasons.
When you receive it, can you let us know if the new router fixes the problem? Thanks0 -
It's a known router issue, not a known exchange issue. No free lunch, and no free laptop
