Battery draining fast on my San Francisco Android phone!

The last few days the battery on my phone has been draining quickly, losing around 30% when just on standby overnight for example. I have tried switching it off and on, and closing unneeded apps (only GTalkService, KeyboardService and Lookout NotificationService are running). 3G, Wi-fi, GPS, bluetooth etc. are all off. I also tried updating all apps. Perhaps the battery is getting old (had it the phone 10 months) but a similar thing happened a couple of months back and switching the phone off and on solved it then, but not this time. Any ideas?

  • download app killer - you;d be amazed how many apps remain open when they should apparently be off.

Thanks. I searched for that in the Market and downloaded a program called Advanced Task Killer so I used that to switch off some apps I already thought were off. Let's see if it makes a difference to battery life...

My San Fran is about 11 months old and the battery is about the same as from new, it's somewhat variable, from a 100% at nightime I find in the morning sometimes it's still at 100% othertimes it's 89%

I use task killer and turn off everything including data, I turn on wifi or data only when needed and I get 3 days use most times.

Watch out for fake 'genuine ZTE' batteries on Ebay as there are many around.... Modaco forums has some useful info on batteries.

What's the last app you installed? Bin it. Beware of facebook, twitter etc which 'phone home' every minute or so

I really would recommend you getting juicedefender as bengalknights says
    https://market.android.com/details?id=com.latedroid.juicedefender&feature=search_result
it has doubled the time I have to charge the phone

  • Go into settings>about phone>Battery>Battery Use

That should tell you what has been using the most battery so you can take the appropriate action.

I hadn't installed an app for ages, so I am not sure of the sudden drop in battery life. I now installed JuiceDefender and it seems rather better now, so I am going to see how that does over the next few days and weeks or normal use. I also ran AutoKiller memory and that set some limits.

    Settings>about phone>Battery>Battery Use
currently shows Android System 87%, Maps 6% (I used GPS for a bit today), Cell standby 4% Phone idle 3%.
