The other day a truck decided to reverse into the side of my beautiful, 10-year-old Audi A4.:(
Damage to the car is substantial, probably in the region of £2k-£2.5k at a minimum. Checking the various car guides the car is probably worth around £3.5k in a private sale.
Anyone with experience of these things able to offer an opinion on what is likely to happen? Is it probable that they will go for a repair or are the likely to go for write-off - no doubt offering me a paltry sum in the process?
Only good thing to come of it (apart from the lack of injury to anyone involved) is that I currently have an Audi TTS as my courtesy car. Very nice - and unexpectedly 'posh' for a replacement car. I'm happy for the insurers to mull this one over for a while so I can have a good play with it.

I was reversed into at traffic lights last weekend .
I have been told that the cost of fixing my car is £2800 which is apparently 165% of its value.
I too am enjoying the courtesy car while it is all being sorted , a brand new seat leon
Anyway , my point it that I was told that insurers will generally pay up to 66% of the car's value , any more than that and they will usually write it off.
Let me know how you get on x0 -

 Whaaa? How is that a replacement car for an A4?
I assume it's going through an accident management company?0 -

It's not exactly a famility car is it?
As you said, my insurers passed it on to an Accident Management Company caled HelpHire and that is what I ended up with. I understand they are claiming £120+ per day from the other insurers for the privilidge.
I suppose that is an incentive to come to a speedy resolution.0 -
Thought so - I'm pretty jealous but I don't know how they get away with it.
When I had an accident in a Laguna 2.0 Dynamique I was given a VERY base model Corsa 1.2 courtesy car :rotfl:0 -
Hope the other party's insurance do pay out for the frankly ridiculous hire charges.0

Yes - I get the concern over the courtesy car I have been provided. Nothing to do with me and comes at no cost to me - with indemnity from costs falling to me if the other insurer fails to pay, provided I co-operate with the case against the building firm who's vehicle hit me.
Does anyone have any thoughts/advice on what is likely to happen regarding write-off/repair - which is what this thread is really about?0 -
These claims management companies do not need to be used when a third party admits full liability and your insurnace company company should be advising you better.
The scenario when TP admits responsibility (and there is no personal injyry) only needs to be.
TP informs his insurance company
Insurance company instructs you to take your car for a repair quote (to which ever garage you want)
Take the car for a quote
Garage emails or faxes the Insurance company
Insurance company tells the garage either to repair or decides it is a write off.
Insurance company sorts you out with a hire car.
Garage informs you when the car is ready
You pick your car up and go home
Garage bills the Insurance company
Insurance company pays the garage.
You as the innocent party should have very little to do apart from what I have stated above and of course inform your own insurance company and tell them it is for information only. There needs to be no need for further involvement from them.
By putting you through to a claims management company your own insurance company has added hundreds of pounds to the claim.
Of course other insurnace companies are also doing it to your insurance company but it all should be looked at.
These CMC's are leeches and this is why insurances is so costly now.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -
McKneff - thank you for an informative and sensible post. Thats' more what I was looking for.
I guess if my insurers have handed it over to the claims management company then I have to go along with it. Interestingly they appear to have handed it over to the claims management company BEFORE the other party's insurers were even aware of the incident.
I agree it's ludicrous that I've been provided with an Audi TTS as the courtesy car. I was told I would get a like-for-like replacement so was astonished when it was delivered to my door - from 100 miles away!
It all seems as if it would have been so much simpler had the sequence you describe been followed.
Still trying to find out if anyone knows the percentage ratio - repair costs to car value - that the insurers use when considering whether repair or write-off is the best option.0 -
Did you see my post above ?
