£5000 per 1gb on Virgin ?!?!

I signed up for the £10/moth 300/300 SIM card via Telewest and stupidly didn't read the 0.75p/kb charge so I ended up with a £100 WAP charge for 3 weeks use !
This rate seems extortionate seeing as T-Mobile do 1gb/month for £7.50 on web'n'walk whereas 1gb/month on Virgin's rate is over £5000 !!!!!!!
I have written to them to complain and got no joy.
Anyone got any ideas ?

Move to T Mobile.0

I'm with tmobile on a flext and i'm getting charged about the same.
Even worse, when I signed up to the contract, I was offered what the sales person said to be a 1mb bundle of usage. It turned out, after my first bill of about £8 for my web usage that it was a 10% bundle UP TO 1mb.
I'm not happy either:mad:
They shouldn't get away with such an extortionate rate. Please don't pm me asking to eat me because you are hungry.

Not very constructive.. How could one 'move' to T mobile if they are on a contract which lasts for at least 12 months? Please don't pm me asking to eat me because you are hungry.

If the price is stated in the agreement which you will have "agreed" to having read, then it is your own fault you have gone over.
Whether or not it is more expensive than a competitor won't make a difference.
Seems like you've learnt the hard way** Mobile Phones.... I'm here to help **0 -
teh only positive on the Virgin high data charges are it's the same when you go abroad so then it becomes one of the cheapest on offer. So if moving to T-Mobile isn't an option....move abroad...;)
it is in the T&C's though, luckily I was PAYG and realised quite soon that it wasn't economical so could leave0 -
Virgin's PAYG rate is 0.5p/kb, I'm surprised that it's higher on a contract
Thought PAYG users got ripped off by everyone for everything. o2 PAYG is about half the price, still £2500 for 1gb though
Looks like I won't be using GPRS too often on the PDA/phone I've just purchased !0 -
no one could ever use 1gb transfer though!!
I'm on o2 online payg and get 1mb free with my £10 top up - so I never EVER pay for wap.0 -

The OP said that they are on the sim only tariff, which means he/she can cancel with 30 days notice.I agree that the data charges are a bit of scam.
T-Mobile have GPRS/3G data capped at £1 per day on PAYG, which may be useful for you, going forward.
The Virgin rate is £5 per mb, UK or roaming abroad.
As regards to charges, you can still use top-up cards with Virgin sim only. If you know someone who works in shop that sells them, they may be able to get money off the top-ups, or be able to get top-up's for less than face value. This is a system account and does not represent a real person.
