Nope. Orange were a chuffing nightmare as i had the same problem a few years back, pre smart phones. My only options were to either buy out the rest of my contract, or buy a cheap handset and use that for the remaining contract period. I went down the cheap phone route, from ebay. Got a SE C902. Brilliant phone!!!

I would really consider leaving Orange. Worst network around at the moment.

Bet you thought that when you bought the premier handset that gave you the ultimate user experience that it would last you for the full 2 year term without going "iffy".

Wouldn't be considering the new Iphone by any chance, in spite of reliability of the current one????? ;)

I actually just snorted out loud :rotfl:

I suspect there will be an unpresidented number of iffy iPhones over the next couple of weeks...

the phone is actually the wifes i have a iphone4,as it goes i will not have the new one as it is way over priced for what is essentially the same as i have now plus the fact i cant have flash is really pi@@ing me off now.

been put off the HTC as lots of issues with rubbish reliability and customer services, been looking at the galaxy 2 for her gonna keep the 4 for me until something i like better comes out.

as for expecting it to last the 2 years did not really think about that as anything can go wrong at any time no matter what the cost.

Phones ain't like they used to be. Mine used to be in perfect working order 2-3 years after buying them. With phones these days you're lucky if they last 12-18 months...

...how old do I sound?!?:rotfl:

• You can upgrade early with orange. They've just started it, you get about 30% discount on your termination fee, but can preorder the 4S. :D
You have to start to finish.

The average failure rate of mobile phones is around 22%, Sony Ericsson has the highest rate at around 30%, the iPhone has a failure rate of 2%, they don't go wrong often, my 3GS is the most reliable phone I've ever owned.

Where did you get those stats from? (The Apple web site doesn't count!)

Well it is at odds with the information on the web. For example, http://www.squaretrade.com/pages/cell-phone-comparison-study-nov-10 acknowledges the relatively low rate for Iphones rather than Androids, but states
"The iPhone 3GS had the lowest overall failure rates, with just 11.7% failing over the course of a year, and the aggregated pool of other smart phones had the highest failure rate at 16.9%."

It also states "The iPhone 4 was the most reliable phone, with 2.1% projected to have a non- accident malfunction in the first 12 months The major makers of Android devices, Motorola and HTC, were also very reliable, with just 2.3% and 3.7%."

Note - this is a projected figure.

http://phandroid.com/2011/06/27/android-smartphones-suffer-from-highest-failure-rate/ also disputes the Iphone failure rate you quote, and also makes the point that comparing 1 manufacturer (Apple) with a number of different Androids is not actually a fair comparison as some of the Androids will be cheap far-east copies.

I also wonder if the "must return it to the Appleshop for repair" might lead to Iphone failures bypassing the stats???

But, to be fair, the gathered stats support a higher reliability for Iphones.
