    They even work when you close your eyes - going against the theory of 'if you can't see them, they can't see you'.

    Yes, the picture is just switched to negative to enhance the number plate.

    The ones on the M42 where the M6 toll road joins up use flash. They have the sensor facing oncoming traffic and the camera the other side of the gantry to catch the rear number plate

    Last year in bad weather the M42 had a 40 limit set on the overheads but people coming off the Toll road weren't slowing down so got flashed for their trouble.:(

    Are you saying that a pedestrian wouldn't be able to read the front number plate of a car with its lights on in the dark?
