Stand Alone Broadband??

Can any1 advise us of a 'decent' deal where we can keep out BT linerental (and hopefully not have to pay another line rental)?

We have recently had a plain boring standard BT phoneline installed and are tied in for 12months (we were promised BT vision and broadband unbelievably cheap but our contact at BT never followed through with her promise :-/ )

We also have freesat so not bothered about a phone or TV package as we have these and our mobiles but we would really like a Broadband connection installed.

Thanks people :) xx

Get a 3G phone, a 3UK sim card & top up £15 a month & convert the £15 for all you can eat data, 300 mins & 3000 texts and tether the mobile as a modem- no line rental and mins and texts free for the same amount you will pay BT for line rental. Or Primus do really cheap line rental.

Your contact missold you a BT package & i'd make sure you follow through a complaint about such.
SO... now England its the Scots turn to say dont leave the UK, stay in Europe with us in the UK, dont let the tories fool you like they did us with empty lies... You will be leaving the UK aswell as Europe ;)

If you go down the '3' route, make sure you get a symbian powered phone. That way, you can use 'JoikuSpot' to turn the phone into a WiFi hotspot and by altering the DNS settings away from those for '3', you can download as much as you want as the '3' servers cannot measure data usage (found this out by accident after downloading 8Gb of files then the next day checking my usage on 'My3' and discovering I had used none).

Also, '3' topped the Dennis Publishing multi-magazine survey in the mobile BB section.
    Never Knowingly Understood.

It can take a couple of days or more for providers to have accurate information on usage levels. I'd bear that in mind!

If your looking for a broadband only deal, plusnet do one, it's who I'm with (My Parents pay the linerental).

Virgin media do cable only internet.

Three will do 3G (HSDPA) broadband - all you can eat. But they don't offer this package on their mobile broadband sims. So you'd need a regular phone sim.

But if you're paying line rental then it's not a standalone broadband package.

The guy is already paying line rental to BT, as per the OP. There is no such thing as "standalone broadband", apart from cable.

Your best bet is to find out what providers are available on your exchange as per steveE2's post (#2) and find out which of those is the cheapest.

Agreed Gordon, cable or a mobile broadband would be the only options, but may not be the best choice.
