What is a feeder school? Help!

Options
I'm currently in the middle of filling out my sons school admissions form and found a question regarding why my son needs to go to this exact school, it says;

I believe my child attends a feeder school to this school.

Please can someone shed some light on this? As i'm not entirely sure and dont want to get it wrong!

Thanks:beer:

    I think feeder schools are where several primary schools attend the same secondary school. So if his and other primary schools are all in the catchment for a specific secondary then he is in a feeder school.

    a feeder school is a school where the pupils who attend it all are able to go to the same high school /comprehensive rather than being split up to different schools....pupils who attend the feeder junior school for example get priority in high school over pupils who attend a different junior school...hope that makes sense....

    Some secondary schools place children higher on the allocation list if they are at one of the feeder schools.

    usually there are several junior schools that serve an area and these are called feeder schools to the larger secondary school if they are located in the same area or meet specific criteria....

    Basically it sounds as if the secondary school you are applying for only accepts applications from pupils currently in specific junior schools ie feeder schools...so your child will need to be in one of those schools to be considered for a place in the senior school

    If your LO was in a feeder school I suspect you would probably know so don't worry about it.

    My DD's go to a junior school that is a feeder for an outstanding secondary... we're out of catchment still but trying to move into the catchment. You wouldn't believe the difference in rents between there and here :(

    You probably need to check with either school or the local authority, but around here the only places this affects are where you have separate infant and junior schools.
    Most primary schools take children from reception to year 6.
    But some are just infant schools (receiption to year 2) and some are just junior schools (year 3 to year 6). They come in pairs and the infant school would be a feeder school for the junior school.

    It's a different school, so you still have to apply for a place, but if you are at the feeder school then you stand a much better chance of getting a place at the junior school.

    Around here that certainly wouldn't be the case. And I believe it wouldn't be the case anywhere.
    The rules (certainly around here) is that children who go to day nursery rather than state nursery and children who don't go to nursery at all shouldn't be at a disadvantage when applying for a school place.
  • That will be the feeder school OP. My daughter was at a state run pre-school nursery and it is the only feeder nursery to our DD's primary school.
