Cats!

Oh, why do people have so many cats that they make other people lives a misery!

I love animals but can't have any pets because I am allergic to them. My next door neighbour has 17 cats who use my gardens as a toilet. I clean up at least 10 poos everyday. This morning, my children were late for school because as they walked out the house they stood on a poo on my path so I had to clean their shoes off. Then when I got home, I caught 3 cats tearing my childrens trampoline net to shreds which will cost £80 to replace. I've tried every deterent available and now i'm at my wits end! Nothing works.

My mum also had this problem with her neighbours... they had 7 'indoor' cats... untill baby came along.. then out they all went ;(

~get some long nails.. nail them in the fence posts around the garden then tie fishing wire between the nails - the cats then cant get over the fence as they cant 'climb' on the fishing line.
~ buy a huge water pistol (cheap this time of year) and stay in for a week by the back door EVERY TIME one come in your garden squirt it.. took 2 weeks for my mum but now they dont come in the garden at all....
~ make sure the cat poo is also returned to the owners i personall like to hang it in a nappy bag of the front door - especially on direct sunlight :)

DH is making noises about adopting next doors cat as he feels sorry its left out over night....

I would assume that a phone call to environmental health with regards to the poop and animal welfare with regards to the volume would solve your problem - 17 cats is excessive in anyones book and if they're using your garden as a litter tray then it's causing a problem which needs sorted.

  • I love cats and have three, however, I can see your complaint if your neighbour has 17

I would second the idea of getting a waterpistol or supersoaker and spraying them, the water won't do them any harm but after a couple of soakings they will be less likely to visit your garden.

Could you talk to your neighbour about the issue? I would think with 17 cats, others on your street might have an issue too?

I love cats but 17 moggies is OTT, sounds more like a cattery. A big dog would solve the issue, I always thought cats buried their poo.

None of the cats local to me do... twice I've watched a local ginger tom walk across my lawn and squat to have a nice big poop right in the middle. Both times I chased him off before it was too late.

    I love cats, but 17...
I like the idea of hanging the cleared up poop from their front door handle! :rotfl: I believe one of my friends has done a similar thing with a neighbourhood dog's owner. Only took 2 goes before it made a difference...

Water pistols are a good idea. Have you tried the sonic deterrants?

With 17 cats you could try environmental health / rspca too.
Failing that get a BB gun and make sure no one sees you.... :D

String, soaked in fox oil along all your walls/fences usually works.

Or try those plastic things that look like little sharp triangles that you nail along the top of the fences.

I think an air rifle would work better than a water pistol..

Both of which would land you in quite a lot of trouble - remember the woman who put a cat in a wheely bin?

It's unlikely to be a cat if the poo is in on paths/out in the open - far more likely to be a small dog or fox.

Where do you get fox oil from ?

Before the cat police get their claws out, i haven't got an air rifle.
