restaurant.com, anybody used it?

Options
Hi. we are off to usa next week and I was thinking of trying these vouchers, so has anybody used them and how do they work?
I see one restaurant in San Francisco has an offer for a $25 voucher for $10 but a minimum spend of $45, if I bought 2 vouchers for $20 would that cover the $45 minimum. Sorry if this sounds confusing.

the terms say you can only use one certificate per restaurant per month - you can't use 2 for the same meal.

You can normally get discount codes for 50-80% off the stated prices (so your $10 voucher will instead be $2-$5). The Vegas thread normally has current code detail. Currently code is SALE for 70% off.

You buy the voucher, print it, take it to the restaurant...present when ordering. Read the T&Cs (like the minimum spend - some have a required gratuity).

And tip on the value before the voucher!

Some can only be used for Dinner or Lunch only too so as ferf says, just make sure you read the T&Cs thoroughly.

I went to SF in the summer and had a ball - have a great trip!
  • I was on Holidays in the US last month and had bought 4 restaurant.com vouchers. Only one was honoured, the others were rejected by the restaurants saying we no longer do business with them.

I would not buy them again, too risky and too much hassle.

Wow - I' ve never had one declined and I think we've probably used about 30, maybe more, over the years?

If a restaurant stops participating you can get a credit from restaurant.com...we've done that a couple of times when the restaurant closed.

Out of curiousity what city and what restaurants so I can be sure to avoid if they are still listing them?

  • So, if a particular restaurant says minimum spend of $45, is that the minimum amount of vouchers you must buy. Also is there a maximium number of people that can eat at anyone time. I would want to use them for a family of 4. thanks

no - it means you have to spend $45 at the restaurant to use the $25 voucher. So no maximum number of people (not that I have ever seen - but you can't have 4 people and 2 vouchers at the table - it's one per restaurant per month per person and one per group*)...but you must spend $45. Sometimes it's food only - no alcohol to make up the minimum spend amount.

So if you use the 70% off code - the voucher will cost you $3 instead of $10.

You will then get a voucher worth $25 off your meal costing $45 or more...so you effectively get $25 credit toward your meal for $3.

    Make sense?

    *from the T&Cs
Only one (1) Restaurant-Specific Gift Certificate may be redeemed per party, per month, per restaurant, even if the party is seated at separate tables and/or receives more than one check.

THanks - shall avoid them if they are still showing on the website and we find ourselves in the area...shame you had such a bad experience with them...we've saved hundreds of dollars using these vouchers before and think they are just great...found some good restaurants we would not have found otherwise too.

We have used them a lot in Vegas and saved a packet. As long as you read the general T&C's and the restaurant specific T&C's, such as minimum spend and whether alcohol is included all of which are on the website before you buy, you'll be fine.
