Advice needed: Starting from scratch claiming PPI from RBS

Hello,
long term reader, First time poster
I`m attempting to claim RBS for my missold PPI.
BUT I have no paperwork, no details and no dates! I`ve had 3 loans from RBS, all with PPI, but once the loan was paid off the paperwork got thrown out/lost/eaten by the dog. I cant even give an exact date on when the loans were taken out.
I started my quest by phoning a reclaim PPI company (after some research I found one that only takes 15% flat rate) but after speaking to the nice gentleman on the phone, he said he couldn`t help unless I have the loan agreement numbers (I thought well once I have them I may as well try myself) so i contacted the bank. its now been 1 week and already i`ve been fobbed off three times and sent the wrong details (so i suspect they dont want me to get that information)
So this leads me onto, hopefully, some helpful advice from people who have started from scratch with little or no info and got through it in one piece.
any help would be greatfully recieved

Hi and welcome
First of all I would personally not use a claims company, and it may actually be quicker if you deal with this yourself, going by reading others experiences on here.
And you will get to keep what is rightfully yours.
And in regards of tracking down account numbers, I assume you already know you were paying for the ppi, and have your reasons for being mis sold?
What you could do is check old banking statements, if you bank online this may allow you to go back to about 2002, the loan number is normally shown next to the monthly loan repayment made.
If your still with the same bank, where you paid by direct debit, call in and they may check the systems for you.
Hope your able to get hold of these, and its then just a matter of completing a reclaim questionnaire on step 3 below.

Send to their head office of complaints dept and keep copies for yourself.
Please note there is less paperwork involved by doing this yourself.
Hope this helps, good luck.;)The one and only "Dizzy Di"0 -
thanks di,
with your advice about the online banking, i`ve tracked down the dates and amounts the loans were from, but unfortunently theres no agreement numbers on the repayments.
Tried telephone banking (again) but was told (again) to just `go to any branch`. Of course the branch `dont keep records that far back`, but were quite happy to give me 2 more telephone numbers to call (on calling both were unanswered!)
I do feel however these numbers are the key to getting this moving0 -
If you paid these by dd from your bank, have you checked your dd list as the account numbers will be there,i have dd from years ago that are not used anymore but the account number and payment dates are there.0

good call amersall, just checked and they only include upto aug 10 for some reason!
Anyone know where I can write to to find the `loan agreement numbers`?0 -
Hi Groggut , I had my RBS claim upheld last Sat for £9000 . When I claimed I hadn't got any paperwork or account details either so I handwrote them a letter listing why I felt I had been mis-sold and told them they could get all the details from my local bank . After having no word from them for 4 weeks I phoned them and they told me there was 13 loans that they were looking into!!!
So..... after 1 letter and 3 phonecalls I got the result I was hoping for, though I must say I didn't expect that amount .
Hope you are successful . Anne .0 -
Hi Anne, sounds very simple, do you have a copy of the letter you could post? may be the simplest thing for me to do and to see how you worded it could be very helpful
Thanks0 -
I sent a SAR(subject access request) as part of this I received a list of loan account numbers, how much they were for, the date taken out and the amount of the ppi, they weren't able to supply me with the original agreements, but I had them, the daft thing about RBS is that the number on the agreement doesn't match the loan account number.
I did have paper statement with them going back to the time of the loans so I could see how much had been paid and when, it also helped me work out approximately how much i'd get back.
As Di says above you could try going in to your local Branch, if you take ID and the address you were at and explain about it they may let you see what they can find, you don't neccesarily need to tell them it's for ppi you could say that you found something on a credit report and you wanted to check the details with the bank.
Di above has also used something similar to this, if the details are on your credit report you can dispute it with the credit agency, who then write to the bank, it's amazing how quickly they come up with things.
the address for RBS ppi section is
PPI Customer Concerns Team,
Retail Compliance,
5th Floor,
1 Hardman Boulevard,
Manchester,
M3 3AQ
tel numbers 0161 755 6890/0800 015 0319, not saying how quickly you'll get an answer at either of these numbers.
Just to add, I just received my offer in yesterday for five complaints I put in mid June, my 16 weeks is up tomorrow, success with redress of just over £10,000.Thanks to all the competition posters.0 -
