Would probably spend a little bit more on the monitor and get one of these which is full HD and DVI. I think the LG you have is purely VGA.

The desktop is not cheap for what it has. (I don't understand this) see post 1

    Thanks m5rcc

Loved this monitor 99% sure this is the one I will go for

If it was me, then yes. But for you I have no idea, as all you have said is you don't want it for gaming, which is very vague.

Sorry not making my self clear. I want the best I can afford with the money available (£400) for PC. (Though I won't use it for gaming)

Love the HP TouchSmart 610 (yes I can see why you used it as a compariable as far as spec goes) The price difference  is an awful lot.

    Anything else you can recommend?

Lets put it this way, the first desktop you posted has better specs than than the Hp, also the Acer does cost upto £600 on other site's. So if you don't mind a bulky (ish) then the Acer is the better option.

Yes that VGA monitor is a good monitor, so general use is ideal.
Mansion TV. Avoid at all cost's :j

Phew, this should be simple but it's getting unnecessarily complicated.

Jill, as I understand it, whether or not you want to play games, surf the net, write letters, whatever, you just want the best specification you can get for £399, yes? Well the best spec for £399 is the Acer Predator you found on ebuyer. But it's ugly right? Can you live with the looks bearing in mind it's the best specification you can get for £399 ? If yes, then buy it. Don't worry about it being 'too high a spec' for what you need. Because what you may need 6 months down the line could be different from now.

Regarding the monitor, yes of course I'd recommend one with a DVI-D input, but too be honest, for general purpose use a VGA one will be fine. Just buy a branded one, that's the size you want, that you like the look of, that costs what you want to pay, and if it has a DVI-D input well then that's a bonus.;)

I know what you mean it is an ugly brute!!
It would sit on the floor out of sight (too big for my desk). I am going to go for the monitor you and m5rcc recommended.

The PC ?? still not sure
