Beware international charges to Jersey/Guernsey/Isle of Man

I got caught out here, even though I'm pretty switched on about which numbers I call, so I thought I would document this for others as its tricky.
Jersey, Guernsey and the Isle of Man are crown dependencies not part of the UK so they are classed as international by telecoms operators and charged as such. Unfortunately it is very difficult to identify them as international numbers as they use the UK country code and can be dialed without an international prefix.
Wikipedia has a list of numbers for each island:

Martin and the MSE team, would it be a big ask to add this information to the Phone section of the site/weekly email so its more visible? Thanks

All foreign numbers must be accessed via + or 00.0 -
My fixed line provider includes calls to these territories in my unlimited call package to 01, 02 and 03 numbers. Many providers don't do this, and some even have contradictory information in their price lists, stating in one place that all 01/02/03 calls are inclusive and in another place that calls to these territories have a different charge.
This has been a problem for a long time, even before local loop unbundling was introduced. I question why it is necessary to charge for calls to these territories differently. Calls to Hull have never been charged differently, so why should calls to these British territories, that are part of the UK numbering system, be surcharged?0
