the office network kit needs internet connection sharing enabled too, cos it's a hub/switch not a router.
yep.. avoid internet sharing and run a proper network.. you'll have nothing but problems using sharing..
a proper router and 2 cables and away you go0 -
i was thinking about connecting up using wireless (well my pc downstairs wired and the one upstairs wireless)
ive been looking at a few but would wireless work from upstairs (is the signal strong enough) i only need the internet connection. So if ive got it right i plug my broadband into a router..then from there into my pcs (do they have to go through ethernet because i dont think ive got that on the pc downstairs). The upstairs i think will be using a pci connection??
im not too good with pcs so does this sound right?Smile and be happy, things can usually get worse!0 -
thankyou all for your help
I'm still rather confused and think I may have to get someone round to assist
Or would it be any use going somewhere like PC world to ask for help?? Wish I hadn't bought the new pc now, got even stroppier teenager on my hands!!Some people see the glass half full, others see the glass half empty - the enlightened are simply grateful to have a glass0 -

Bought a new laptop, also bought a Linksys wireless G broadband router, tried to network it with a ntl modem (broadband) on old computer (both XP). Laptop says it is connected but can't actually get on the internet. Internet connection fails on old computer when it's all connected up.
Any help?if i had known then what i know now0 -
i am on NTL i did enquire about a wireless router, for my daughters' laptop. Ntl uses a different system. U.S. ROBOTICS is the one that comes to mind, do a search in google for company details, u.s. r's cust support were very helpful, failing that any John Lewis will give you sound advice. PC World will be keen to sell without knowing the technical ins and outs, that may be why internet connection is not working properly also Lynksys and Netgear did not have very good reviews in a pc mag i read a while back.never put off buying a bargain today,it may be gone tomorrow0
