Hi,
A wireless router would help with this.
I think they are selling for 100 pounds on the highstreet, but these can vary online from as little as £25.
The router connects to the broadband line and then you can get PC cards that will allow you to use the Pc's without the need fro extra wires.
Have a look here:

Hope that helps.

Sorry, I should've mentioned that I'm hoping to do this via cables because I'm now far too poor to spend a lot of money!!
Thankyou anywaySome people see the glass half full, others see the glass half empty - the enlightened are simply grateful to have a glass0 -
Hiya,
In that case you need to get a splitter, a bit like this one on ebay:
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=176&item=5716616542&rd=1
then you will need cable and
connectors:

you may still need to buy a router like this one:

Hope that helps.
Please don't just buy the one's I have found on ebay... in true MSE fashion shop around and look around on ebay etc.
Ciao

very, very, very easy to do.
if your pcs are new they should have network cards. use the usb cable for the ntl modem to leave the network interface free
go into an independant pc or electrical shop and ask for a crossover network patch cable of suitable length.
link the two pcs together with the cable and then run the network connection wizard on both of them and follow the logical path of prompted questions.
should cost less than a tenner!0 -
Karen, If your pcs dont have network cards , go to your local PCWorld and get a Belkin Office Networking Kit (F5D9007uk) PCWorld (SKU) Product code number 857016.
It costs £14.99 as clearance item and contains all you need to connect up to four pcs to a broadband/cable modem
four 8m cables four computer cards and box +sotware, to combine them into the modem Similar to this but for 4pcs and has 8 way switch No pic of pcw kit available
This will get you started cheaply, you can upgrade to a router later.

I know the basics of networking but can i get mine to recognise each other, we know the network cards work in the main pc cuz we swapped over the internet connection to test this.
But i have a laptop that won't even connect to the net. It has an ethernet card but for some reason it just won't have it?
I was looking at a pci card adapter, I understand the fundimentals but why should I buy one when i've got one in the machine already?
Any help would be grateful here please.0 -
internet connection sharing is unreliable at best. if both your PCs have network cards then use a normal wired router, plug that directly into the cable modem and into the 2 PCs.
there's not much setting up required, you'll probably have to clone a mac address to get it to work with your modem, but that should be detailed in any instructions with the router.
try ebuyer for the router, they have some pretty cheap (~£25) Linksys ones.0 -
the office network kit needs internet connection sharing enabled too, cos it's a hub/switch not a router.0
