I guess the trouble is if you put something in writing (which you effectively are if you're commenting on FaceBook) then you run the risk of the company using this as ammunition against you. All it would take would be for some other disgruntled employee to see what you'd written and print it off and show the boss..

  • They can do it and they'll put it as gross misconduct and fire you, so follow their rules to the letter and don't mention where you work.. slag them off but don't mention their name like they requested

Completely bad advice, slagging off their employer whilst not naming them is as bad as naming them; just be a grown up and don't do it. I can't see the problem with acting like a mature adult.
If you haven't got it - please don't flaunt it. TIA.
  • The problem is we all have bad days at work. I'm not the sort of person that will say xxx is the worest company in the world BUT I want to be able to write I've had a bad day and if someone asks why to say works been bad. I don't want to have to worry what I write! If a company wasn't bad to work for there would be no need to say it was.

Facebook isn't really special in that regard. If you make a poster saying negative things about your employer and then stick that in the middle of town, they can discipline you for that - even if there's nothing in any policy about it.

In effect, Facebook posts aren't all that different to posters in the town centre!

So do it then. Just don't be surprised when you haven't got a job to moan about any more.

most people would have taken the smilie at the end of the post, as an indication of how to take it.

Your smilie said 'cool'; inferring that it was a way round the issue. If it had been a 'wink' then no problem.

that doesn't happen, they're just trying to scare you into thinking they're got Harry Potteresque powers or have special Facebook access.

They will probably use google alerts
  • I've never seen the point of Facebook, but I have seen people face disciplinary action when it has been used in a negative way towards an employer. Many employers have a clause in their contracts that state bringing the company into disrepute may result in disciplinary action.

if you make comments about people you work with or your bosses you deserve to get repercussions
