I understand about the bookies, the minimum time is too long but you need to stick it out and be accurate with the in and out time. 10 mins would be about right to assess what there is to assess IMO, especially if it's a small shop or a quiet time. I've done a broom cupboard shop with no other customers and it is cringeworthy when I think back.

To kill time I'll ask for a coffee if one isn't offered and do the loo at the end. There have been a couple of occasions where I have got chatting away to the staff and I've ended up spending best part of 25 mins in the shop!

    No, it cannot.

Obtained receipt, correct bet placed, name of MOS and description accurate. Assessed everything I needed to during the time I was in there.

I beg to differ. The client wanted you present in the store for 15 minutes; you have not complied with this requirement. How could you have observed activities in the store over 15 minutes if you did not spend this amount of time in the store?

You also submitted the report giving confirmation that the details you had provided were true (including your in/out times). I interpret this as fraud.

It is not up to us be selective about which parts of the briefs we follow: if we take on a job, we are under obligation to complete it in accordance with the brief, or to be completely honest with the mystery shopping company about any deviations from the brief.

Actions such as yours give mystery shoppers a bad name. Representatives of mystery shopping companies read this thread. Would you really want any mystery shopping company to know that you falsified your visit times for no good reason? I just hope that any mystery shopping company that chances upon your comments does not assume that we all have so little disregard for integrity.

Have to agree here. You mustn't re-write the brief to suit. We've all done things that would indicate we're not genuine the shoppers. They are just badly written scenarios but ours is not to reason why...

We have the choice to pick jobs to suit so if you feel you cannot comply with the scenario, then don't do the job.
  • I must admit I agree with Yonk. There have been jobs really close to my home which I have not picked up because there was something in the brief that I knew I could not comply with (anyone remember competitor eggs?)

Having said that, I think its good that you realise this and have said you won't be doing these jobs anymore.

I must admit I wouldn't do the betting shop jobs, because I would feel realy self-conscious staying in there for the time period required.
I like actually going to the races sometimes, and betting there at the course. Now that would be a nice shopper job :-)

On another note, my moan of the days is overseas call centres. I know companies need to keep costs low but I want to speak to someone I can have a conversation with, and we both understand each other.
