He also then tried to get me to sign a piece of paper at the end of the enquiry when I told him clearly I wasn’t making a purchase. He said ‘No no it’s ok, I’ve ticked the box that says you don’t want insurance’ and I was like – why on earth do I have to sign then!? I’m not signing any piece of paper when I’m not making a purchase! Bizarre.

I did 3 of those phones and they all asked me to sign that paper. They make it sound like its some kind of requirement to get the customer's signature to proof they have followed instructions and talked about insurance. It didn't make sense to me either but I have not been in a phone shop for over 5 years now (I buy all my phones online), I just assumed its a requirement for all physical phone shops.

Sounds like he was mixing up what he needed a signature for. That particular report demands lots of how you "feel" answers so there you go, you did what they want.

I've done two phones for GFK recently, one about a market leader and rival to the fruity company, that was more opinion based, and this one which was the new type of phone. The report from what I remember was along the lines of 'Did the MOS mention X, Y, Z' and I just had to keep clicking 'no' - poor guy!

I'd never sign something when I was just in the shop for an enquiry, ever ever. Nor give them any of my details.

I've done the self-storage for Helion quite a few times and they're v v insistent about getting your details, the report tells you that you can't leave them, it's quite hard getting out of that without being rude... they REALLY want your email address!

Actually, he was right to ask you to sign. It's the data protection thing because he'd captured your personal details. If people are refusing to sign, I hope they are putting the appropriate response in the questionnaire. It does sound like you didn't realise what it was in this case and it is one of the questions that they are scored on.

I've done a lot of these recently so know the brief well.

The tariff he suggested was reasonable and so were the amount of minutes. They are supposed to ask you open questions and tell you those particular facts for each phone.

I have to disagree here. I get that for £26 a month by going direct to the company. I'd never in a million years buy a phone from these as they have to skim a bit off the top to make money. But the shops worth the fee.

That said, yes he is required to give you those facts and sounds like he largely id exactly what he needed to do.

    Indeed, indeed.

You should have seen the guy though, he was so obviously reading it from a bit of paper sellotaped to the table and was really scattered with his sales technique, not natural at all, and knowing that he was supposed to put these 'facts' in from the report, it just made me laugh the way he did it. So awkward!

Oh, I agree with you but for that shop, it was within their usual tariffs so he wasn't out of line.

Pffft, expensive aren't they? Gosh. I'd always go direct, why pay a shop to search tariffs when I can do it myself! I like the phone shop jobs though, I really do, because I like finding out the latest phones and having a play with them... sure I always spend far longer in there than I need to, lol.
