I worry that I will forget a key part of the scenario or stand out like a sore thumb. I can see that when this is written down it looks pretty silly. Were you nervous at first?

I'm new to it too Elleceebee , my worry is that I will forget timings/scenarios so I've been concentrating on pub/restaurant visits for two people. My OH has been coming along with me (he has a great memory) and I've been using him as my stopwatch. I have a couple of friends who are keen to come along when he's too busy. :D
  • Thank you KST101 for sharing your thoughts, it makes sense. I could do with some more confidence in general after 10 years out of the workplace due to ill health.

I think everyone is and if they are honest still are with scenarios they have never done. It all comes down to being confident, when you have done one of a specific scenario then the next one is easier.

You need to remember you are going in to a shop that generally will have lots of customers each day asking the same things you are asking so there is little chance you will stand out. You normally will not be asking anything that the member of staff has not dealt with at least a few times that day
  • Thank you SammyFace. I imagined that you all were just breezing thro it without single nervous thought.

On my first one I was convinced there was a huge neon arrow pointing at my head flashing 'Mystery Shopper'.

The place we went to last night for dinner was amazing, not at all plush or expensive but the service, food and atmosphere were fabulous. I'm sure when they read my report they'll think I was related to the waiter. :p
  • Thanks Boredupnorth. Some wise words coming my way today, maybe this flu bug has a silver lining after all.
  • Thats so funny SammyFace. I thought the staff would be saying, "Who is she kidding..thats no mystery" as I felt so conspicious.

You will find the only time you get sussed as a mystery shopper is when companies insist on using the same scenarios over and over and to be honest all that will happen is you will get excellent service, so not at all bad.

I started in 2002 and still feel like this now and again!

I'm ok doing jobs in situations I'm familiar with, like buying groceries, buying for children - that kind of thing. I really hate doing car jobs, as I'm just not interested in cars. It's just a metal box that gets me from A to B, and I can't get enthusiastic when they tell me about all the features :o

Even in the same store, I felt better asking about dog food as I've had dogs all my life compared to feeling nervous about asking for help with cat food as I don't know a thing about cats.
Here I go again on my own....

I always think to myself that if I mess up, the worst case is I don't get paid. I won't be hauled to the stocks and made a fool of in public.
As I don't take jobs that don't fit in with where I am going that day, I'm at the shops anyway. If I mess up, I lose the fee, which can be grin and beared, finish my errands and very worst case, be sacked by email. Nobody will know.
None of these things have happened, so I carry on, but still have new jobs where I feel unsure. I think it's natural
