Is this normal, a core 2 duo 1.8ghz x2 processor being overclocked to 3.5Ghz x2...or have i missed something? Secondly should they even be claiming at the top of the page that it is that level of processor?

Gotta be a typo I reckon. Maybe just maybe 2.5Ghz X2 at a push. Check the processor out on ebuyer reviews and see if anyone there has clocked one to that. I doubt it. Prolly just a typo but maybe a con. Steer clear anyway mate.0

Yeah, I would avoid, stinks a bit.0

Hmm, the Core 2 Duo range are very overclockable, but that sounds a bit too good to me. The E4300 was only launched this month, there's some info on
http://www.anandtech.com/cpuchipsets/showdoc.aspx?i=2903&p=2
They managed to overclock an E4300 to 3.3Ghz
"Using Gigabyte's GA-965P-DS3 motherboard, our engineering sample was able to run at 3.375GHz (375MHz x 9.0) at 1.468V using a stock Intel cooler. Although the E4300 still only has a 2MB L2 cache, when overclocked to over 3.3GHz you end up with a chip that's faster than Intel's Core 2 Extreme X6800 - at only $163."
So it may be possible to get 3.5 Ghz using better cooling. It may be worth sending him a mail to ask exactly how he's cooling the processor as it's not that clear in the description. Personally I think I would rather buy something like that with it running at standard speeds and overclock it myself.
It seems a pretty decent price though (if you like garish cases)It's my problem, it's my problem
If I feel the need to hide
And it's my problem if I have no friends
And feel I want to die0 -
Yeah, I've heard that's roughly the limit for the E6300. I've not read much about the E4300 though. They will no doubt be difficult to get hold of for a while.
I've got my E6300 overclocked at 2.8Ghz no problem. Runs completely stable, and temps are ok (40C idle, 52 load). Ideally it's best to get an aftermarket cooler (I use a Scythe Ninja) and a case with decent airflow. The C2D's are very overclockable. The E6300 used to be the "best buy" but on recent prices, you'll get better results with the E6400 (in relation to cost)."Boonowa tweepi, ha, ha."0 -
those e4300 are meant to be quite overclockable however they are not release in the UK as of yet, should be here within a week or two.
However considering that OC aren't gauranteed, I wonder if they have 5 systems available ready for that clock speed.
Any C2D around 3ghz should be more than enough really IMO.0 -
It might be clocked to that in the bios - but wether it boots and is stable is another question. Would steer clear.0

My processor temperature is 24c when playing music, surfing the internet, looking in my computer, and talking on msn.0

That's incredibly low, almost questionable. The ambient room temperature won't be much (if any) lower than that. Very impressive if you can get temps like that though.
What are you using to read the temperatures? If you've got an Athlon64 or Core 2 Duo you should use an app such as CoreTemp or Intel TAT. These read the type directly from the core, rather than via a motherboard sensor, so are a lot more accurate."Boonowa tweepi, ha, ha."0 -
I just used pc wizard.
