Mid 20s here, we would bring fruit and veg too. Stopping in at the fruit and veg shop up the road for it on the walk to school . We even would have a bale of hay/straw, courtesy of the one child who lived on the local farm! Although I've no idea what happened to all the stuff after the display, in the back of my mind I think we just picked up a random item and took it home again, not necessarily the one we had brought.
