  • I re-use the inside bags from cereal packets, they are so useful for putting the kids sandwiches in and for putting anything messy/smelly in to go in the dustbin,I also re-use bubble wrap and my newspapers go to my mother for her coal fire.
  • I rip my tissues in half (before use!), or split the layers, and then fold in two. A box then last twice as long!
  • As a student (many years ago) I used to save the potato peelings and cook them in a cheesy sauce and then add them on top of mashed potatoes - my room mate used to love it, but everyone else thought it was very weird and would not touch it. I must have had a harder skin then (excuse pun!) because when I think about it now I do cringe and don't like being reminded of it. Having said that, my rational was that the potato skin includes most of the goodness - so why waste it - people eat filled 'potato skins' as a starter in many places - perhaps I'll try it again.

Same. Instead of using one whole tissue to blot my lipstick (what a waste!), I separate the layers and then tear each layer into three, or sometimes four, strips.

Also, eye make up remover wipes if only slightly used, can be remoistened with a drop of water and re-used.
  • I always watch telly in the dark, saves on electric and after all you sit in the dark at the cinema so whats the difference!

So can baby wipes if they have dried out, and when your mascara is getting old and dried out try putting a little water on the brush and then using it to stir up the mascara, gives it a whole new lease of life!

Think we should all offer our tips to a new series of 'Supersavers and Superscrimpers' - what a great series that was, reassured me that I am not the only nutcase out there!!

I cut worn out rubber gloves up to make rubber bands.

I troll evilbay for hours looking for cheap clothing for the family.....my mum cringes at this one, since she hates second hand anything.

I can make a chicken that's supposed to serve 3-4 people feed six of us three nights running.
first night - roast dinner. four have the breast, the other two the legs. The kids fight over who gets the legs :rotfl:

Second night - chicken and veg pie. All the remaining bits off the breast, wings and underside of bird.

third night - stock made with (by now very ratty looking) carcass. Any remaining bits of meat that were hanging on for dear life are mercilessly stripped off and added back to the stock, and I will use the stock for either soup/stew or a risotto/pasta dish.

I never thought I would enjoy doing this one but I do (I used to be a moisturiser snob) I make my own from glycerin and aloe vera. Cheap, effective and my skin looks better than it ever did with the hugely expensive types. Go figure :rotfl:

Mooncups. The idea grossed me out at first, but curiousity got the better of me.....I was surprised to find out it works :T

My dad is excellent at thrifty stuff (much to my mums embarrassment). With a couple of trusty rolls of strong tape, he made a hoover that had it's handle broken off, and eventually the top of where the brushes are last around ten years. I think it was more tape than hoover by that point :rotfl:
Proud to be dealing with my debts :T

Picking up dropped pennies from the road! I really don't need to do this, but for years, we've saved all our loose change in a big wine flagon, then it gets tipped out every year, bagged up & goes towards a holiday. It can really add up. So many times, we've been a coin or two short of being able to make up a full bag to pay in, so I always think of those occasions & pop in every spare coin I find! 3 x 10ps & a pound coin this week, by the way!

Do I take sugar in my tea? No. But I do when I'm in a restaurant/cafe etc. Now I have a bag of sachets of sugar etc in my cupboard for when sugar loving friends come round. I'm so bad at sachet stashing that if I go somewhere with my family they all give me their unused sachets and my handbag ends up full of ketchup and mayo. My boyfriend despairs until we run out and I find a sachet for him and he can have ketchup on his chips after all! I do loads of embarrassing stuff to save pennies!
Since starting again after beanie: June 2016: Child development DVDs, Massive Attack tickets. July: Aberystwyth trip, hotmilk nightie. Aug: £10 Hipp Organic vouchers, powerpack. September: Sunglasses. October: £30 poundland vouchers.
  • I use every little tip in the book for money saving. However my most embarrassing one is keeping a little earthenware pot next to the hob.

When I've used just the end of a match to light a ring, I keep the used match in the pot until the occasion arrives that I need to light a second ring and I use the already lit ring to light the match and use it again! I only throw 'used once' matches away once my pot is full!

Yikes, now I see it written down it does seem stupid.:rotfl:
