I have moved to a house with e10 in nounsley essex cm3 2nj
I new and still no nothing of e10 or its hours and like most people I am appalled by the lack of knowledge at eon and the inability to answer the most simple question. Only through searching the internet have I found TODAY that I have a mid day top up and I've been here for 3 months.
Now can somebody please tell me the hours for the various rates and then quote a price for getting rid of it?

Radio teleswitch or time switch metering?

Was the meter replaced with another E10 meter at any point whilst you were with another supplier?

Do you have 1 MPAN or 2.

its a radio telemeter series 2a (means nothing to me) and I have 2 mpan nos (or 3?). This was fitted for the previous owner to run 5 storage heaters. I am tempted to remove them as my preferred method of winter heating is an airline ticket.
Until now I have paid a landlord 10p per unit, no hassle or standing charge and I am obviously shocked at the prices q!oted by eon.
    Any info greatly appreciated.
  • I just read your forum about Eon EnergyPlan. I am quite confused with this plan. I have E.ON E10 EnergyPlan for my new house.

It has 27.174p for Standing Charge per day, 15.698p for Day Units & 8.211p for Night. How this unit works during day & night? I have storage heater as well as normal heater in bedrooms, Which one is more efficient to use & what will be best time for that?

Also meter shows as Rate 1 & Rate 2 for different times, I have no idea hows that works as well?? I have Quarterly Cash payment method for this plan.

Please could you please suggest if there is any other plan available with E.On or any better option with different supplier available as well.
  • Hi dharminonline

Economy 10 meters are designed for all electric properties with storage heaters. They give 10 hours of cheaper off peak electricity per day for water heating/storage heating purposes. This is split into three periods during the night, evening and afternoon.

Within the 10 hours, there are 5 hours at night when the off peak rates are charged for all electrical usage including things like lighting, dishwashers, TVs etc.

The actual times the off peak rates are active depend on the region and the particular metering set up at your property.

So the meter can switch between the different times, it will be wired directly into the water heating/storage heating circuits at your property.

All electricity used for storage heating/water heating during the off peak times will be charged at 8.211p per kWh.

Also, all electricity used during the 5 night hours will be charged at the lower rate of 8.211p per kWh. This includes your normal heater.

However, if you use your normal heater outside of the 5 off peak night time hours, this will be charged at the higher rate of 15.698p per kWh. As will all consumption except for that used for storage heating/water heating during the afternoon/evening off peak times.

As this is a bit of a hybrid set up, I'm afraid we only have the one tariff available.

For similar reasons, Economy 10 doesn't appear on the independent comparison sites either. To see what other suppliers are able to offer, you'll need to contact them directly.

If you contact us, we'll be happy to let you know the times your off peak rates are active. Alternatively, drop an email to the address in my Profile and I'll find out for you.

    Hope this is useful dharminonline.

  • Hi there

We are new to E.ON and the E10 tariff with RHT

Looking at my bill I see that I have:-

Day units up to 704 kWhs - 16.202p
Day units (presumably 704 kWhs and above) - 15.5330p
    Night units - 8.211p
RHT daily standing charge - 8.610p
    RHT normal - 8.747p

I understand the the first three but what is RHT and what are the last two?

Also when are the 10 off-peak hours available?

I read somewhere that the hours are:-

    00.00 - 05.00 hrs
    08.00 - 10.00 hrs
    13,00 - 16.00 hrs

Are the hours GMT or do they effectively shift with the change in clocks?

I assume that the night storage heaters ONLY work on off-peak. Do the other house hold sockets use off-peak electricity during the specified 10 hours or are they always using peak electricity?

RHT is Restricted Hours Tariff. It simply means it doesn't run for 24hrs continuously like a standard meter as it is less than 24hrs or switches to a seperate register.

Day, Night + Heat is usually what you see on complex E10 old regional metering with 2 MPAN's. Your Heat is a seperate circuit in your consumer unit and only what is wired to that works during the 10hrs.

Often with E10, the Night hours are reduced on the Night register. Some are only 5 hours

I suggest you ask the Eon reps because your type of E10 and its 10 hours & Night register hours are regional and in some regions there is multiple settings. They can check your meters pattern from the details they have of your meter.

They can be GMT or BST, this depends on several factors a) which was agreed b) does the meter have an internal ability to adjust the internal clock (seen on newer metering) and c) if its a radio teleswitch meter, does the distributor alter inline with these changes as these receive nightly updates. The Eon reps can check this for you.

  • Hi Lismore

Terry has already given some excellent advice.

Just to confirm, switching times on Economy 10/RHT meters vary depending on the region and the metering set up at individual properties. If you drop an email to the address in my Profile, I'll be happy to check the times for you.

As Terry says, the RHT part of the set up will be wired directly into the heating/water heating circuits at your property.

This will give you 10 hours of off peak electricity in three separate bursts for heating/water heating purposes only. This is where the RHT normal charge comes in.

Within the 10 hours, there'll be a period (usually five hours at night) where all electricity used will be charged at the off peak rates (RHT normal).

Hope this is of come help Lismore. As I say, give me a shout if you'd like me to check in more detail.

Malc, not sure about your Heatwise as I know a lot less about them but with some E10 dual MPAN meters the Night 5 hours is seperate. 3 rate E10's such as the SSC0949/0950 (and the radio teleswitch versions these replaced) operate this way.

    Incase its any use.
