Help! E ON economy 10
Hi everyone I could do with some advise. I'm currently have an Economy 10 tariff, but I'm not sure if it's the best tariff to have. I've tried switching but no one seems to do Economy 10, my current tariff is E ON E10 ENERGY 8. I'm currently charged 14.46p per kw day rate and 7.56 per kw night rate.
Is there a better tariff out there I can switch to and can I use the same Economy 10 meter for an Economy 7 tariff?
Thanks.

Hi brazzy,
Economy 10 meters tend to be installed in all electric properties with storage heaters.
E.ON currently only offer one tariff for E10 and this is the tariff you have to be billed on if you have this meter set up.
If you wanted to change to a more standard metering set up, we would always recommend getting the advice from an electrician as the wiring in to the meter would need to be changed along with an actual meter change, (this would be chargeable).
Economy 10 meters give 10 hours per day of cheaper cost electricity for water and central heating requirements over three separate periods.
As such, they're wired directly into the water/heating circuits at properties. Consequently, replacing the meter may have implications for the water and heating.
The meters themselves differ from Economy 7, in that, they have three readings - night, day and stored heat.
Hope this has helped a little.

Don't even think about it as attempting to switch with E10 invariably ends in tears.
As the Eon rep says, they only offer one E10 tariff (and I believe the same goes for the other suppliers that offer E10), but your situation will not be compatible with any other suppliers tariff (nor, as the Eon rep also says, any other Eon tariff)
Get expert advice (not from some phone jockey at a supplier) if you are serious about switching. You may need new wiring or new appliances as well as new meters. The energy supplier will only supply you the meters ... for which there may well be a fee.
It may just be simpler to buy a new home..."Now to trolling as a concept. .... Personally, I've always found it a little sad that people choose to spend such a large proportion of their lives in this way but they do, and we have to deal with it." - MSE Forum Manager 6th July 20100 -

Can anyone advise me how to go about getting help with my large bills from E.ON.
From looking on the internet, the cheap rate times seem to :
Midnight to 5 AM
1 til 4 pm
8 til 10 pm
Are these correct? Is this GMT or does it change with the hour?
I live in Manchester M20.
I live in a two bedroom duplex and have set the hot water to be on for one hour per day during cheap rate and only put the heating on when i am at home in the evening for 2 - 3 hours. Yet the bills are working out at approx £1400 per year which seems extortionate for this amount of use.
Indeed E.ON set the direct debit at £40 per month so i have just received a large bill to catch up.
I note that the time on the meter is wrong and have an engineer coming to look at it but any other advice would be appreciated.

Is it a radio teleswitch meter or a timeswitch meter?
If a time switch meter, your supplier can easily check the times for you as they are stored on Elexon's website. Its easy to do, but you need a data item called the Standard Settlement Configuration (SSC) for the meter, so I can't say without it. If its one of these, it can't switch with BST as the rules regarding timings won't allow it. Newer meters can switch with the BST/GMT as they have calendars loaded into them, but there are more recent types.
If its radio teleswitch, the signal is sent by the distributor. Again the SSC is needed to check this but the signal can be out easily by 15 mins at times but since the signal is sent nightly, your supplier is unlikely to know this. It can also b out by up to an hour but unless its consistent, no one will ever know about it.
You need to also understand what type of E10 you have. If its a singular MPAN on your bill, its like an E7. Its you have you heat wired desperately to a 3rd register, you will be Heat wise.
Suggest contacting the Eon reps as they need to check your SSC.
Assuming Eon Malc comes along as he often does on metering queries, if you need to understand about the consistency of daily signalling, check out your daily D0029's over a year...you will surprised how some meters can be out almost daily but the more common types at least seem a bit more consistent (although of the studies I have done, I didn't do the EMEB region).:rotfl: It's better to live 1 year as a tiger than a lifetime as a worm...but then, whoever heard of a wormskin rug!!!:rotfl:0 -

Thanks for the good info Terrylw1,
Malc is on holiday, so I will have to do
Terrylw1 is absolutely right we need specific meter details, as this will enable us to check the exact times for your meter.
We can also get the consumption department to speak to you about your usage and how best to use the system that you have. They are very helpful and knowledgeable in these sorts of things.
I am more than happy to find out the times for you though, just email your details to the email address in my profile page
