• Ok, M'Dear, the gauntlet is beng thrown down. I repeat...the gauntlet is being thrown down..:D

I've just posted on the grocery challenge for Jan a budget of only £100...which includes pretty much everything BUT food. I certainly can't be getting alcohol and chocolate with that budget!.

    We can do it....

    Want a fag, want a fag, want a fag!!!!:eek: :eek::eek:

Feeling really murderous at the moment..... stroppy, deprived and sulky.....pathetic but true :o but I will stay off them....have drunk lots of jack d to make sure that I am unable to drive the car and I live four miles away from the shops, I don't do cold and no-one else available to get them for me.....;) :rotfl:

    NO YOU DON'T!

As my old dad says, you just think you do. And any [STRIKE]excuse[/STRIKE] reason to drink JD is a good one in my book :rotfl:

Fingers crossed for the next few days. I'll log on now and again so feel free to vent if you need/want to

Good luck, Chuck! I'm looking forward to the challenge - will start my cutdown after 27th....too many meals before then to struggle through :rotfl:

    28th onwards I'll be :A and :money:

    Happy Christmas!

Thank you!!!! Yep, don't need much of an excuse for the JD....but nice to have one!! :D

Hopefully, I will be over the worst by then (generally a three day thing for me :D) and will be able to keep you on straight and narrow with a certain amount of smugness!!! :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

Hope you have a fab time and enjoy your last few days of indulgence......;):D

    Thank you!!! :D

Day two now....feeling less psychopathic but only just..:o...am not going to give in though.... I know that by this time on Tuesday, the cravings will just be minor fleeting thoughts and I will have hidden all the bodies well enough not to be caught!!!:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

  • day three..... I am feeling much less sorry for myself today....plus, have put the axe away, so everyone is feeling safer!!! :rotfl:

I am going to decide on menu plans today.... I was going to do this over the last couple of days but have been too :mad::mad: would have probably ended up with things which would have been laced with strychnine and arsenic!!!

I am not intending to go to the shops at all in January, I think that I have enough stuff in the cupboards and freezer to do me right the way through until February with a bit of careful planning ;)

the only thing that I may need to get is some more washing powder.....I go through an inordinate amount of washing which is unsurprising as there are six people in the house, four lots of human bedding, three sets of dog bedding (they have two duvets at each 'bed station') plus towels daily.....my poor washing machine and tumble dryer are on about four times daily.....and frequently more than that!!! It is one area that I know really costs me, but I don't see the alternative really....willing to have suggestions though!! :D

I am also going to have a look at my bank balance tomorrow to see what I can afford to put to an additional OP..... probably won't be much more than a few quid but it will make me feel better :D

I know that January is going to be the best month OP wise for me in 2012, so I want to throw as much as I can at it, I am really hoping that I can get to July when my fixed rate ends and my mortgage returns to svr and have a decent chunk to pay off the capital before I take a new deal..;)

At the end of Jan, my mortgage statement comes in..... am tragically excited about this!!! :o I will be very interested to see what my actual balance is....as I have said, I am not great with working out interest etc so my balance could be something completely different to what I expect.....hopefully, if it is, it will be in a good way though!!!

I was absolutely shocked when my mother, Queen of Sales, decided she wasn't going out to the shops today. I have Public Affairs and Shorthand to work on - that's my excuse!
I am going to wait until I go back to London before hitting the shops...

Very glad you and your family/friends have survived thus far :rotfl:. Well done you :T

Sorry, I have no words of wisdom on the need to use WM & TD so much. I've only just weened myself off the TD and there's only one of me!

Re your comment about not shopping in January. Can you share your secret re fruit & veges. These items + bread flour & butter, and cat food/litter for old boy cat, are the only things I think I'm going to NEED. Do you have a secret stash somewhere? :p

I've made a monumental decision not to go sale shopping tomorrow. I don't NEED anything but was really looking forward to a wander around our little market town, and maybe pick up one or two bargains (not food! sez she hastily in case you think I'm reneging on our "Challenge!"). But I've miscalculated my target (see MFW2012), so need to even cutback on the odd fiver I might have spent tomorrow...even more important to avoid food shops for the next couple of months, so the less I go to the shops, the better, far less temptation I think.

So, I think a bracing walk in the gale force winds will be my lot tomorrow. A NSD and a No Use Car Day all in one.

Ach! It'll be FUN....won't it!

E(again!)TA - I too am looking forward with great excitement to the 1st of the month so I can see how much my 10% op in Nov has reduced my daily interest by. My brain goes wibble wobble when I think about interest, let alone compound interest, so I am greatly excited to see how much less my interest charge is for Dec compared to Nov, and how much is being paid off the capital now. I reckon, I should be at 2/3 of my monthly amount paying off capital and down to 1/3 paying interest. Here's hoping!

I HATE shopping so never a problem for me!!!! I would rather flay myself alive than hit the shops at sale time!! :rotfl:

I have an enormous stash of fruit and veg in freezer and cupboards....I have a dehydrator which I use throughout the summer when I can get things really cheap from local farms/roadside sellers or totally free from friends/family and I have two freezers in the house so they are always well stocked too.....as I am vegan, there isn't any meat taking up any room so its really just a fruit and veg fest in there!!:D I do like to have my stash!!:rotfl:

I bought in job lots of bread flour (well, spelt flour) with my last suma order so no need to get any more of that for a couple of months either.....I do buy most of my stuff in bulk so can avoid the shops wherever possible.....as I said to Hurdler....I really, really hate shopping!! Dog food I get delivered via the internet so buy a couple of sacks at a time.....no more will be needed before beginning of Feb...and things like butter for the non-vegan members of the house I tend to buy about six packets at a time so they don't need buying more than every 6-8 weeks.....anything to avoid the shops!!!

Have checked out your slight miscalculation of target (oops!!:rotfl:perhaps its because you are going to be off the choccies and wine that you just feel 2012 will be a much longer year :D ) but I am very impressed that you are going to stick with it!! :T I will be cheering you on and slapping wrists where necassary ;)

Here's to our January 2012 mortgage statements.......and may they be so much smaller in 2013!!! :j:j:j

Aye, well £3500 is one hell of a miscalculation . I know there is no chance of finding anything like that money but today have hopefully worked up £50 towards it that I wouldn't normally have bothered with -by reducing the Norton renewal amount (almost halved it from £65 last year thanks to advice on MSE forum) and saving £7 on cat food. Will order it online. And also hopefully earning £15 on topcashback for 2 week lovefilm trial, which I'll cancel next year (actually just next week! Eek!). So, not a fortune...but, as I say, money I probably wouldn't have worried about too much if I'd reduced my target down to the possibly achievable rather than leaving it at the definitely unachievable.

So, not bad for a day in front of the fire (the walk? ...well...it got shelved in favour of saving money). I've also started investigating ebay as have never really thought about that - seems like a lot of effort, but I'll spend january weekends investigating it (and Gumtree) further and see what seems possible. E.G I have a wedding dress, and an evening dress that would do as a bridesmaid's dress and as it'll be coming up to wedding season, someone may just benefit from a wee bargain, while swelling my MFW coffers :rotfl:

Sorry, I am hijacking your diary to get my thoughts out. I should really start my own  . Sorry, again.

P.S. your freezers & dehydrator sound fab! :money:
