Hello, just been reading your new diary. Definatly you are not alone battling to overpay the mortgage with a family who leave on lights/ waste food and in my dh's case have a penchant for buying dvd's! I think in time it gets a bit better and its a good idea to let the other half have their own money however small or great the amount (that sounds awful!) anyway good luck.
    MFW 67 - Finally mortgage free! 💙😁
  • Hi icontinuetodream, welcome aboard  It sounds like we have similar plans to pay our motgages off in 5 years so i'll be watching your thread with interest.
    Good luck!

  • having a lazy day today...nightmare couple of weeks at work so have took today off as a 'mental health' day....basically involves me doing absolutely nothing all day....:j:j

I have been checking stocks in the cupboards and feezer..(lots of unidentified stuff in the freezer....few days of freezer roulette coming soon:rotfl:) and have been on the pooter for a bit, but other than that....bone idle!!! Really enjoying it too :D

I am getting pretty excited about the year ahead :D(tragic really!!) I am sooo looking forward to being my new frugal self.... already plotting on how I will move things forward and what I need to do to make sure others get the idea....preferably without using force!!;) These boards should come with a warning though...this is seriously addictive...:rotfl:

  • YAY!!!!:j:j:jMajor victory today.... dh's car died recently and he has spent the past month talking about getting a new one....however, long conversation today and explained that now that my job has changed (much less travelling involved) it would make more sense to just have one car between us...we both work in the same city but I used to cover 12 counties...I still cover them, but now it is more on a phone/email advice basis so no need for face to face contact :D He has finally agreed that it probably makes more sense and would help with OP's :T:T:T
I am stupidly happy about it....one set of tax, insurance etc...will save a fortune in the long run and will really help with the op challenge ahead of us!!!!:D:D Perhaps the 5k for 2012 is probable rather than possible!!!

  • Have spent the last couple of days in a spreadsheet & op frenzy :o talk about obsessed!!! I am really happy that dh has agreed that another car is unnecassary...it will make an enormous difference to our op amount and (drum roll please!! :rotfl:) I have decided that in the longer term I want to pay off our mortgage in three years!!!

2012 will be a trial run really... it is going to take a lot of commitment which we haven't really shown to date but 'we' are determined to do it....I think that dh is finally getting on board, especially now that he realises what a huge difference it will make to our lives and that 36 months is nothing in the big scheme of things :D I am excited and apprehensive....not sure which one is the stronger emotion at the moment, but I will ride the wave anyway!! :T

Also wanted to take the opportunity to thank everyone who has/is supporting me in my journey....you really are a fab bunch of people and a constant inspiration to me....couldn't do it without you!!

Thanks beth :D it is a phenomenally challenging target, but if we work really hard at it, I think that we can do it ;)

Being on these boards will help immensely, it is easy to lose focus and to feel overwhelmed when things go wrong (which they have on a variety of occasions in the past :o) but the support and ideas that I have found on the forums make me think that even if I can't acheive my MF date in three years, I will still make really significant in-roads - and it shouldn't be too much more than three :T

Dh got overtime and a bonus today and I got back pay from child benefit....£828 straight to the mortgage OP's!!!:j:j:j Can't tell you how happy I am....it is such a huge bonus to be able to start our full-on MFW journey :D Have updated sig already won't get any more of those in 2012 but hey, what a start! :T

  • Woohoo!! :j:j:j Finished the final shopping for 2011.....no more for me until mid january hopefully!!:D I now have all I need for solstice, I am really looking forward to finishing work on wednesday, celebrations from sundown on thursday and ......quitting smoking from sunrise on friday.... Okay, still a little bit spooked about that...has been a long time since I was smoke free, but know that if I really want to hit my targets in 2012, I have to quit....:o

I am looking forward to it in lots of ways, for the first time in many years, I actually want to quit....paying off my mortgage is the motivation this time and it has been a long time since I have had anything I have wanted to achieve so much..... I don't need any assistance to quit...lets face it, I just have to stop putting them in my mouth and lighting them!!! The last time I quit (yes, I am a habitual re-starter!!!:o) I wanted to get the deposit together for my current home, so stopped immediately and didn't smoke for six years.... (only started again because I got a job which bored me senseless and needed a distraction!) so I know that I can do it but the challenge is going to really be if I fall off the MFW wagon and lose the motivation with that... I will just have to make sure that I stay on the boards and keep the focus....may mean that I have to write drivel on here regularly, but hey....if it helps!!!:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

Just wanted to drop by and say "Hi".

Your "Drivel" is inspiring me, so please keep it up! ;)

Good luck with the giving up of the ciggies. No doubt it will help your overpayments and your health too. I'll join you in the "challenge" but not for ciggies as I don't smoke - I intend to give up "carp" like chocolate and wine, and watch my portion sizes. So, if you can give up the ciggies, I can give up the carp....it's boredom that makes me turn to the food cupboard, but after Xmas, it'll be no more...

Enjoy your Solstice. Keep up the good work :T
